That print is probably a latent print from the regular session. Happens all the time in after hours.

What lifestyle would live someone who is guaranteed to get $1.2M/yr.?

Yes! We're on the same page! I have an acquaintance who, with his wife, spent years and years planning and building a multi-million dollar custom home. When I saw the completed home, I thought to myself, "Wow, it looks kind of institutional, like a resort. When I have this kind of money, I'm...

Looks like overtime pays time-and-a-half for traders, too. :D Thank you for that; now I don't feel like the only one who managed to take nothing more than beer money off spoos.

How I stopped making the same mistakes in 2010 and started to make more money

I'll preface with: You've been trading longer than I, and you know your own strategies, and I don't know at all how you trade. But... I think it's important to share: I went through a similar phase last year and found that my trades, when given more room to work, often took exactly what I...

    Trader P/L 2010

Holy cow, mtnrnr! You're a sniper! You took more than the daily range! + $408 Saw CL moving in to test the 81.45 high on strong buying pressure, was about to place a buy stop at 81.46 and suddenly realized that I’ve only traded CL breakouts in sim, so I wondered about possible slippage...

On days like today, do you guys have to wear goggles to keep from gouging your eyes out? :D

    ES Journal Archive (2009 - 2010)

Yeah, stopped out twice for whopping net gain today of $15.40 :p ADD: It's the kind of action where you need to take your point and run.

    CL Redux

Seemed like textbook CL breakout action to me, especially since there was such strong buying pressure leading into it. Wouldn't be surprised to see another one.

    CL Redux

Exactly, that's what I saw and that's why hesitant to use a buy stop, but I really should've just jumped in a few ticks ahead. An additional boost was a lot of intraday shorts hoping and praying at that level :D

    CL Redux

That's what I was thinking. I've been doing that with stocks, entering just before the breakout, when the buying strength is apparent.

    CL Redux

EON, when your stop is hit, do you get much slippage? The reason I ask is that in my sim account I've traded breakouts via a buy stop and gotten no slippage. I hesitated to do that at 80.46 this morning because I wasn't sure what slippage would be like in the live account and the breakout in...

Is that the reason for the inverse move to ES in pre-market, or is it related to the dollar?

Long and short signals overlap - What to do?

This is intriguing. Every trend contains pullbacks. By siding with the long-term trend in one account, and then counter-trend trading the pullbacks short term in another account, it seems you significantly reduce overall risk and profit short term while still allowing a winner to run.

Chaos, if this was not a day trade, then I apologize. That is very different, and I myself allowed two swing trade winners stop me out at break even this year as well, because I was looking for a greater profit target. Obviously there's no way to know the full range of a day, but a day trader...

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

If you let a 7 pt gain go all the way back to break even without taking something off the table, you should be pissed. A person who lets an ES trade go 7 pts in his/her favor without taking profits on at least part of the trade, on a day when the entire range was something like 10 pts is not a...

And that, Shiko, is the key to the trading kingdom. An inability to do that cost me far more money than I ever made. Only recently have I started to learn how to do that.

I disagree. My stops on breakout trades very tight stops because a true breakout moves quickly and if it fails, I prefer to stop out quickly and re-enter, or look for a reversal. Even trading a high-priced volatile mover like AAPL, my initial stop on a breakout trade is 10-20 ticks away and I...

LOSING traders - How much money and time have you lost?

I'm a strictly technical trader now. I used to look at what the economic news was vs expectations, but now I just watch the price bars, because I found that paying attention to the news itself caused me to form an opinion and I'd often trade my opinion instead of trading the crowd's reaction to...

Very good stuff here. Very true. The less I trade the more I make, it seems. My best individual trade this year was the result of a power outage keeping me away from the trade for nearly an hour. I looked at the chart when the power came back on and I realized I would've likely taken $200 out of...
