    Keeping Records

That is a really interesting strategy and feel free to tell me "none of your business", that won't bother me one bit, but why buy a break of support rather than a break of resistance? I would normally look to sell a break of support unless some kind of bottoming/reversal signal is put in.

Even if you don't post here, at least keep your "did not trade good" trades/charts in your own personal journal so you can refer to them regularly and remind yourself what not to do. I kept a journal here through the good, the bad and the ugly, because a lot of experienced traders gave me...

How can I get over fear of making big profits?

Palatine, your post is really spot on for jinxu. Trading a larger term trend is far more forgiving as long your account can endure the swings and you recognize the warning signs to get out. Jinxu is trading a tiny account and I'm pretty sure is unable to hold e-mini positions overnight. Maybe...

    What happens inside the spread?

There was a stock I traded once or twice when I started out: STRA It was thinly traded with a pretty wide spread. I noticed on the Level II screen that almost all the prints occurred inside the spread and I always wondered how that happened. I think I ended up placing limit order to get in...

+ $195 Took just one trade today, then talked myself out of every other trade as a result of "too low to short, but too weak to go long" syndrome :p

    CL Redux

Oh that was my classic counter-trend long signal with a 20-tick target, and I talked myself out of it!

    ES Journal Archive (2009 - 2010)

I put on 1 CL trade today, suffering from "too low to short, too weak to long, this market is POS today" disease. My Skypemate scalped his way to more than twice my profit in that thing.

    CL Redux

Not much. I'm suffering from extreme "too low to short" disease (though my one trade today was a short). OK, back to watching my philodendron grow...

    Trader P/L 2010

+$1018 Traded a majority of my signals today, missing the Philly Fed due to my marketable (so I thought) limit order being left unfilled in the dust! Violated my trading rules once, but because of that one transgression, my $380 profit target was reached without me on board. Later day...

    CL Redux

That was my analysis exactly. I figured it was consolidating for another push up based on overall bullish ag news and was looking to play long intraday if it broke out, but the breakout happened sneakily in the middle of the night while I was sleeping I thought I opened someone else's platform...

    CL Redux

On news, I attempt to jump in quickly in the direction of momentum, always using a limit order. I reserve stop-based entries for less volatile times than around immediate news releases. Jobless claims is hard piece of news, either good or bad, so I will go in quickly if I can get an order in...

    CL Redux

If I had shorted .37 (which I didn't), I'd have been out rather quickly on lack of follow through. Tried to short off Philly and it dropped too far from under my order. Or what I thought was too far. It turned out not to be too far...

Tested it, and can trade 100. Still, good money trading 100 IMHO.

You have a 7 figure trading account, so you can day trade 200 lots ES no problem, and ES is liquid so no problem there, in and out 200 lots; I've seen 1700 lots in a single print at times. Late this afternoon, ES broke a range low and offered 6 pts profit in 30 minutes, x 200 lots = $60K. One...

POLL: Do you principally use a time-based, tick-based, or volume-based chart?

I've been feeling a bit at the end of my rope lately with regard to trading purely technical without interjecting the thought process, and so as of this past weekend I asked my wonderful geek of a husband to please automate my crude oil strategies. One thing this is doing is forcing me to...

POLL: Do you principally use a time-based, tick-based, or volume-based chart?

Well, it appears you missed my point entirely. Price charts provide everything a trader needs and Ms Debbie seems to think we chartists are dummies. When the brain gets in the way of what the charts tell us, we leave much of our profits behind. Hope that clarifies things.

POLL: Do you principally use a time-based, tick-based, or volume-based chart?

I currently use my brain instead of my chart to make trading decisions and it costs me on average about $1000/day.

    Trader P/L 2010

+$708 Had nice early trades, but allowed previous price action to influence my 2nd b/o trade and I took profits about 30 ticks sooner than my usual trade management rules would've indicated. Avoided the early long signal following inventories because the stop was too wide. Didn't trade...

The point isn't so much your survival, I mean you know what you can withstand and where your uncle point is, but you held (and added to) a long position through a nearly 60 pt move to the downside instead of extracting profits from that move. Why not short when the market was so overbought and...
