    The case for ultra-selectivity

The argument against ultra-selectivity would be a statistical one. If a trader can find 3-5 excellent trades a year its likely he could find several multiples of that in good trades a year A trader would have to have a very good reason to pass up smaller edges, maybe a time constraint of some...

IB Excel API does not transmit orders automatically

I created an order using the sample API DDE, I changed the 'Transmit' attribute to 1. Yet when the order is sent, it takes something like 6-7 seconds after the order reached TWS for it to be transmitted. Why?

I agree, one should take that PE as it is. I calculated the numbers because I suspected he was overplaying that factor given that he did not mentioned the numbers himself. Turns out that even taking the numbers out, stocks are a bit pricey

Does anyone have more close to the ground information in the political situation there? The vast majority of politicians I see want a WEAKER currency not stronger one so I'm curious if this supposed pressure on the SNB is significant or if its coming from a few Ron Paul types If if its coming...

The analogy is this. A horse that might be 70-1 to win the race, gets priced by the public at 50-1 because people get excited at a large payoff with a low risk. Similarly in trading you might have a trade with a large pay off and small risk but it doesn't guarantee it is positive expectancy at...

I say this even though I'm long the HKD. But I believe there are key differences, I just don't see credible arguments for depegging right now of the CHF. People talk about billions in 'costs' but there are no 'costs' if the FX rate is fixed, when you let it go there is(Assuming CHF goes up and...

No, what I meant is that this excitement of people usually drive prices to a point where there is negative expectancy by following them Its well documented that the worse horses to bet are the ones with the 'best odds'(long shots)

Who are these many players?Because other than myself I don't know anyone who is doing it. The very reason you are short is the reason I'm long. People love a small risk to make a big pay off and they usually overvalue these opportunities(tech stocks, long shots in horse racing, lottery buyers...

    Charts of Note

Why do you believe its better to use the distance of ATR(20) from 200MA, instead of something like absolute mean deviation(also called average deviation) from the 200MA?The reason I ask is because ATR being just a measure of daily price changes doesn't tell you much about dispersion, only the...

    Trend Following with options?

I don't believe the market is usually good at predicting fat tails, they also is not good at predicting the extent of the price change during them. Sometimes they do and you overpay but lots of times you don't. Furthermore its possible to overpay for volatility and still make money. Jim Lietner...
