It seems that lots of different bankers advised Cnooc and Nexen to go ahead, they believe they have found a loophole, buy 100% of a company that doesn't do a lot of business in their home country(only part) and get all the foreign assets using the excuse 'well, this is a canadian company'. This...

Per a WSJ article US regulators and even European regulators will have a say on this matter so this is beyond just Canada. During this global slowdown economies usually just get more mercantilist so China hatred is on the rise And NXY being a bigger asset is obvious, when was the last time...

Using a 6.5% loss in the short and 40% gain as guide(to be conservative) it seems that the market implied chance of the deal working is 84%. This seems much too high to me

From what I've read US regulators have a say on this matter even though the company is Canadian. I'm just trying to figure out why the market thinks they have a high chance of letting this happen. Seems totally wrong to me

http://ftalphaville.ft.com/blog/2012/07/23/1093431/cnooc-nexen-and-a-brent-outing/ I'm really considering taking a short on Nexen here. Total loss is 7% if the deal goes through, total gain is 50% is the deal does not go through(Maybe more as the risk arb funds will be liquidating like crazy)...

The Tilson bashing is hilarious. As far as I know he had 2 big funds, one that matched the SPX and one the destroyed all the other indices(to the upside). The one that matched probably beat the indices before fees. This means his picks consistently outperform that market So he makes bad picks...

The Shorting of Frauds, Overhyped and Bankrupt Stocks Journal

What I like about EDU is that the government is already looking at the company. At FSIN I got hurt because even though the company is a total fraud, investors never found out and then they found a crony banker to finance the takeout of the company, I still own puts there but its likely they will...

MS might an example of how no uptick rule affect a stock with bad news. Short sellers wacked the bid all day, the stock reached a level where it attracted value buyers, they jumped in after the stock got upgraded and now are reversing the stock. If there was an uptick rule there, the adjustment...
