The short BRKB puts is a trade I like. I'm short Jan 125 puts. If I get assigned that will be great. The Buffett buyback kicks in at around $120. Every buffett follower on the planet will hear about it because the media will talk constantly that Buffett is buying back his own stock. So that...

Its hard to be bullish on US stocks because of divergence in terms of breath (Russel is weak, AD line is divergent) and HY meltdown creates a competing asset for stocks. If the theory for stocks is "there is no alternative in a 0% world", with the fed hiking and HY bonds becoming more...

I"m also looking for a follow through on gold. It has been beaten down a lot, a dovish hike might just be the signal that people need to bottom pick it

Now, if the Fed statement pushes stocks to highs on the day with a buying orgy but that reverses to red on the day, thats a big short signal right there. I would short that looking to get a correction to down to 1980. So thats a setup I'm looking for tomorrow

A point that Gross made is that because HY bonds have 1/3 of the volality of stocks, if you lever 3-1 on them you can get such huge implied returns that it makes it very attractive to own that vs US stocks. I don't believe this stock rally will last but at the same time I'm not looking to fight...

For income investors, its nuts to be long anything other than these sorts of funds. You effectively are getting a discount on a discount and getting paid a lot of your capital back every year. Sure, the discount might widen, but thats an opportunity to buy more, not freak out and sell at the...

I'm feeling better now and have been trading over the past 2 weeks (I took 9 days off in Thailand in November). I'm not seeing any huge opportunities right now. Bill Gross gave some tips that probably are great for US investors, specially with tax sheltered accounts "He said investors might...

Can you use options to minimize exposure to the US withholding tax on dividends?

I see. In this case, the ETF Im considering, EWZ, has a 2.5% borrow rate, maybe that explains it but maybe its the excess demand for downside insurance as a result of the brazilian crisis

Can you use options to minimize exposure to the US withholding tax on dividends?

I always had to pay this tax. Never found a way around it using paperwork. Maybe there is and I just don't know it. In the markets, there are the SSFs but in this case, there is no market maker for it so that leaves only options

Can you use options to minimize exposure to the US withholding tax on dividends?

good stuff. what about the implied vol thing i mentioned earlier? does it help that the put are trading a higher IVs than the call?

Can you use options to minimize exposure to the US withholding tax on dividends?

I don't think so because my country has no treaty with the US. I know this because a book I published in the US has withholding and getting the ITIN (I was told by different authors) all it could do was reduce the rate to the treaty rate, which in my case, doesn't exist

Can you use options to minimize exposure to the US withholding tax on dividends?

Could the margin requirement to hold such option strategy ever rise to something bigger than using the underlying outright?

Can you use options to minimize exposure to the US withholding tax on dividends?

The puts have a 44% implied vol and the calls 38% (same strike, same expiration), does that provide an extra benefit to the strategy?

Can you use options to minimize exposure to the US withholding tax on dividends?

Because I'm not a US resident nor resident of a country with a tax treaty with the US, dividends paid to my positions have a 30% tax withholding to them. I'm considering putting a position on a country ETF but instead of using the underlying, using leaps on the ETF instead. I would sell a put...

IB not able to clear trades in Euronext AEB - Suspends trading

It appears that this issue has been solved. I was able to send an buy order for PSH today at the AEB exchange. I am however, concerned about how big Ackman is on VRX. His option trades open a significant liability for him if the bear case plays out. I wish he had kept just the old exposure, that...

Just a quick update on VRX. I believe now the only prudent way to play this stock (on the bull side) is to use long-term calls. Here is an article that finally has a bear case that is not-shit like the ones from hempton and others...

    Valeant? VRX

For everybody involved with this stock, keep in mind the following things. A key component of the bullish thesis of this stock is what management calls cash EPS, essentially operating cash flows with a lot of stuff added back because management thinks they are one time charges. The shorts and...
