you can often trade a few cents off of mid in liquid names. often your edge is much greater than the spread (for example you have 2 dollars of edge with bid offer being 25 Cents) sometimes the spread is too big to make the trade worthwhile especially in really illiquid names

you can trade rates more precisely a thousand other ways. you can lever but you still have a volatility view when you buy an option.

you are right. The only reason to trade options is that in theory volatility is easier to predict than stock prices.

My point is that the fills are way off and for options that can be a big deal. I would say that the burden is on you to prove your fills are reasonable - are you filling your buys on the offer side? You were much nicer over PM when you were trying to understand what Des was talking about...
