    Is the IB backfill working?

No. You switch your home server by sending an email request and they do it the following weekend. But when you do a data request its served in the region where the data is stored. I trade asia pacific and don't actually get any US data.

Has anybody built their own computer here?

Asus and Gigabyte both make good motherboards suitable for the core2s. I did a bit of a web search (start with tomshardware and anandtech) to decide which to buy.

    Is the IB backfill working?

Asia is still just fine still. Seems like its one or more of the US servers.

Has anybody built their own computer here?

The "you don't need to go overboard" group is correct but (lol) you might as well get a good system at a reasonable price point. That means stay just off the bleeding edge. Get: - a core2duo e6600 in a motherboard that will cope with a quadro (so its got sharp timing). - 2GBytes of...

    IB Secure Device

God there are some arseholes here. If we've asked IB to do things that are different to what they originally planned and they are changing to meet our needs --- why wouldn't we be a little patient?

    Black Tuesday (1st May, 2007)

Anything can happen but this seems to me to be highly unlikely. Look at the historical crashes (29, 87 come to mind) and the big down days come after multi-day lower highs. I think this LH LL situation creates an environment where over the course of the day everyone who's got an eye on the...

    Psychological BS?

Harold, The difference between your example and the real market action demonstrate reasons that psychology steps in. Take two variations on the car example: 1) The fearful, damaged, trader: Have you ever seen an asian woman driver driving amongst australian males (macho, love their v8s...

    Pro/Cons Day trading/scalping/technical analysis

He said about "your style." He didn't ask for yet another stupid ignorant half-arsed critique of someone else's style. He asked about your style.

Simple Profitable Method - Take 2

LMAO ... Thanks for one of the funniest lines I've seen at ET for ages. Very good. But Steve is right. This is the sort of system that leaves n00bies bloodied and battered on the side of that great battlefield we call the market. It can be improved (there is nothing wrong with buying...

    Taking Emotions Out of Trading.

Cesko, you are correct to point out the difficulty in achieving continuous mindfulness. However, even the attempt engages the forebrain and disengages the emotional brain (to an extent). This helps overcome the issues raised by Taleb as quoted by Bingoking. My personal path to improvement...

    Taking Emotions Out of Trading.

Look up mindfulness. This is how a Buddhist will loosen the hold of her conditioning on her daily life. Try it as meditation. Look at how it's applied to anger. Try to apply it while you are trading: be mindful of, label, observe your emotions and the thoughts that are passing through...

Chaos Mathematics Calls the top in the DOW

The other two causative factors that came to mind are: - Impossible debates between proponents of one trading idea vs another. The political ideas of this arena that can never be resolved. These tend to be avoided in new boards but here there are great rifts with hostile natives on both...

    Intel or AMD?

Older matrox cards (ebay) load the system a lot more than modern cards. Lots of cards do work (I like nvidia based cards but probably for no really good reason) and the key is to stick with the family to avoid conflicts when you add extra cards. See the other threads.

Chaos Mathematics Calls the top in the DOW

You might look at surfer's threads where he is deliberately obtuse for one answer (his little trend following threads for example). You might also consider threads like the "highest paid turtles" thread where he adopts alternative ego's in an attempt to bait curtis. Personally I think that...

    My Goal for 2007: Break-Even

Just like the "first do no harm" principle a first principle for recovering traders could be "first stop making errors." So I like your "don't have to make any money" starting point. For a long time I gave away too much of my daily winnings by taking retrospectively foolish trades. I spent...

    Intel or AMD?

Not a terribly good graphics card ... check other threads in here. You might seek a fanless card if you are building a reasonably quiet system.

xiaodre, You may not get it but red ink is offering the op more valuable advice than most of the posters here. Its subtly disguised but its actually very very good advice. I am optimistic that he will ignore it (not being a prick or anything).
