Anyone else w/open position due 2 zero notification from IB HKFE closing 4 typhoon?

Jeez TH haven't you learnt anything since the last time I had to call you a wanker. TH, I have said it before and in this thread you have made it clear again. Not only do you wade in with (as usual) multiple STUPID anti-ib posts but then you attack another poster. And as usual in your...

Anyone else w/open position due 2 zero notification from IB HKFE closing 4 typhoon?

Def, thanks, an alert/popup/etc would be great. Joesan, yes the current web version (876.1) provides correct timestamping of the backfill and also works well with the 5 second bars (what I call truedata). My guess is that it will be the downloadable version in a week or so as it seems very...

IB guys ... any thoughts on my question at the end of the first paragraph?

IB doesn't suck ... they're actually an excellent low cost highly automated broker. A question for Steve though --- my bulletins cause TWS's bar to flash but because I don't execute with TWS or chart with TWS I don't see them. Is there a setting to make the bulletins create popups or grab...

HK is an island based around Sea transport. They may be worried about problems with internet infrastructure in ducts. They will certainly be concerned about how their staff get home (ferry's being cancelled). HK is HK. Where else do we get the pleasure of a 2 hour lunch break. :)

I was pleased not to have a valid signal when the exchange went down. If you want to hedge HSI do it with ES ... just estimate the risk of a move on HSI from a corresponding ES move (use recent gaps to scale it). If there is a big HSI gap it will be because of the US markets ... nothing else...

    Technical Analysis Doesn't Work

You're just a can't trade surfer ... like your wanker buddies, covell and canfield.

Just started reading Mastering Elliott Wave

Let us know when you move out of witnessing as it happens (or happened) to predicting what will happen and trading it correctly. The witnessing phase is probably just a seductive illusion.

    Technical Analysis Doesn't Work

Surf and canfield are just can't do wankers stirring the pot Mark. Ignore them or just check in for a laugh from time to time. Funny as ... I just wish they were putting some money down to grease the markets' wheels.

Losing 5 level DOM on IB feed for ES/HSI

Try 876.1 (the webloaded beta). I'm using it because it fixed a different problem but it seems very stable (and better :))

Lost half of my years salary in a week!

Look up wattstrading. Ryan's method could be applied to currencies successfully and will cost little of your remaining dollars to give you a workable strategy. Then its up to you to do the hard work.

    IB intraday margin requirements changed.

They will switch back as soon as they think "normal" volatility has resumed. They don't want to stay high because it makes them less competitive but at the same time they don't want to risk their business (and our accounts) by letting lots of idiots run up losses that blow their accounts.

its bad taste to hope for an economic meltdown

Damn, and I thought there might not be one. But when this guy offers an opinion its better to fade it.

anyone using HSI historical data from yahoo

The likelihood is that futures is greater because its more volatile and it also includes the 15 mins before and after the stock market opens/closes.

Cutting losses short should be subjective

Gaps are just a cost of the game and something you should allow for in developing your strategy. Use stop limits (big limit gap though) if thats the issue. Not having a stop in the market is a recipe for disaster in a learning trader (and many who consider themselves experienced). It...

What really Makes Markets Move in a Given Day?

You do need to do a lot of your own research but .... When markets make big moves they need to digest them (and be sure that the current area is value) before moving on so big big days are usually followed by digestion (but not always). I never have the faintest what the day will bring - I...

MY God Hsi down almost 1000 points

I don't talk about specific trades - it tends to stuff me up. My timeframe and length of trade is probably a lot shorter than yours - my maximum stop is 9 points, typically 6 or 7.

MY God Hsi down almost 1000 points

Pretty nice today too red. More predictable (by me anyway) so suits me better. Bogan, Play nice! (lol, coming from me). Although percentages are not as stunning we've seen the biggest points gap and biggest day all in a week. And the volatility certainly changes the entry requirements...
