Essentially, a trade which is originally 1:1 reward/risk can be transformed into something like 2:1 by tightening the stops, perhaps with either the passage of time and /or the position moving in your favour. Bone, i know you are a vendor, but can you say anything on adding to positions?

Totally agree with regard to the trading journal. I enter EVERY trade i make into my spreadsheet together with profit/loss, commission paid and most importantly, my observations on the trade. It's NOT automated, i enter every trade manually. Gives you a feel for your trading.

I think i'm guilty of doing this sort of behaviour a looong time ago. You have spent years doing it. It's time to end it now (not your life!), you've done it and have the t-shirt. Time to move on and trade properly.

Why would anyone be interested in the aggregate performance of managed futures? Surely in a negative sum game, the average performance has to be negative?

Mav, on an article on Abraham's site, it says trend following (long and short) account for less than 30% of their trading. They are much more into mean reversion stuff. Basically, trend following may not have accounted for all that out performance against the S&P.

I have thought long and hard about this. My answer is that it depends on whether you have a profit target or not. If you have a profit target, then you need to start trailing the stop once the position goes in your favour by a pre determined amount otherwise you no longer maintain your risk...
