Silicon Valley Unemployment Rate Reaches Record 11% & Rising

"Small business startup funding in Silicon Valley has slowed down significantly, closing off liquidity and the cash flow spigot. Entrepreneurs are down one significant lifeline." ... "But as Silicon Valley is mired deeper in economic recession, it has become painfully clear that venture...

POLL: Is belief in God due to a failed search for meaning in life and fear of death?

I'm not saying it must. I said that this is one of the strongest rebuttals to a deistic belief, IMO, because it's difficult for me and maybe others to contemplate a lack of a beginning in a physical universe that is constantly expanding outward.

POLL: Is belief in God due to a failed search for meaning in life and fear of death?

I am a deist. I believe in a creator, in whatever form or shape it existed. I am less sure of the moral and ethical connections to that force, for I have seen wickedness that calls into question much of what organized religion of all flavors espouses - wickedness among men and nature itself...

    Deflation Death Spiral Grips Spain

This is a fair point. The title should read fear of a impending death spiral. However, I would argue that deflation has been grossly understated to date, even here in the U.S. My liquidity has much more purchasing power than it did two years ago, whether I want to buy a house or a car...

Thank you. At least when I'm getting screwed in Vegas, they at least pretend to have a diligent and active gaming enforcement unit to ensure the casino isn't cheating.

Here we go: bank stress test rumors...

They can't win because they're known liars. If they claim all is well, no one will believe them. If they level with the people, it's a matter of how devastating the results will be, as a matter of degree. We all know the major banks are insolvent, and anyone who doubts this has no idea...

Personal responsibility is a great tag line, and sounds fantastic. The problem with it is that it only represents one side of the coin, and doesn't delve into the massive fraud, lack of disclosure and rigged racket that is the retirement and pension system that's been set up in the exact...

    TEXAS & the 10th AMENDEMENT!

I think Rick Perry is already backing off what was an incredibly irresponsible statement. I hate what Obama's economic team is doing as much as any die hard conservative or libertarian, trust me - but to whine and moan about it, and threaten to secede from the country is over the top drama...

4-19-2009 Krugman: 'Obama administration’s bank plan could push U.S. into Depression'

You're not missing anything except that the news story of the next decade will be how many seniors and retirees will be eating pet food because they either have no retirement nest egg, or because they have so under-saved for retirement. This is now true more than ever given that home values...

Silicon Valley Unemployment Rate Reaches Record 11% & Rising

When I say 'dried up,' I mean that it's probably less than 25% of what it was just two years ago. You would know if you deal in this arena regularly. This American Life had an hour devoted to tech and venture capital in Silicon, and they were talking to the movers and shakers and all said...

Silicon Valley Unemployment Rate Reaches Record 11% & Rising

But that's what is happening. In fact, a lot of former H1B types would rather work in their native countries (mainly India, Singapore, Taiwan, China) now than at times past. Venture capital money has dried up in the Valley. There is a trickle of deals now, and a small one at that.

I forgot to add that they've seen their 1st or 2nd biggest asset - their home, drop precipitously in value, also. We're living in unprecedented times, and there's a facade of normalcy that will be hard to keep up in terms of appearances.

I'm being serious here - in the U.S., from a demographic standpoint purely, there are about 1 persons under the age of 25 for every 3 baby boomers. If those recently burned, and burned badly, who are great in number (much greater than what happened during the focused 'tech crash,' this is...

All you need to know about Wall Street and its (lack of) integrity can be found in the video when Steve Kroft asks the 401(k) lobbyist whether his buddies support more disclosure of fees. Sometimes, facial expressions, lack of ready-made answers, insincerity in one's eyes and stuttering...
