    Day Traders: Losing Days

When I do bar-by-bar analysis the bars are nice static entities and I'm looking at the chart of my instrument and nothing else. When I evaluate the setups and see the signal bar in real time I look at all kinds of other crap. Holy sh*t, I think you've helped me.

    Day Traders: Losing Days

I'm here. I want to go here. People often ask how I stay so thin: Bar-By-Bar Analysis-Induced Bulimia. We live in separate houses at this point.

Once a strong push in the morning fizzles and establishes a range, it's very difficult to trade. Best to play a breakout of the range, usually in the same direction as the morning move and usually late in the day. The only way I'm comfortable entering a strong trend is to buy or sell the...

    Day Traders: Losing Days

I've been honing a list of rules based on a long running analysis of my losing trades/losing days. Though I often have losing trades, I rarely have losing days. In reviewing my losing days over the past year and working on my basic rules over time, I've found that EVERY losing day came down to a...

I'm not totally clear on your strategy. You wait for price to break down a 30 min bar before going long? That seems totally opposite of how to trade a trend. Wouldn't you be looking to buy a few ticks ABOVE an opening bar's high for a long entry? (Or a few ticks above a previous high for long...

My daily chart shows a bullish engulfing bar yesterday, and no econ or Asia/Europe news overnight, which would indicate a likely uptrend today as price tries to work its way to the 20-bar MA, which is where the swinging bears would be looking to short. The 20-day MA on my chart is at...

Smart Money's Swing Trades Thru T.A.

Buying a call and selling a put is as long as you can get option-wise. If AAPL falls hard you lose your call premium and you have a lot of risk with the naked put. Why not just buy the call if you're bullish on AAPL and limit your risk to the premium paid?

Today I took $550 off a trade when it pivoted from just below the round number after putting in a significant new low. I assumed it would put in the round number bounce and I'd re-short there. No. The thing ended up crashing and then I kept thinking it had fallen too far to short. If I'd simply...

Thanks. I agree, I thought the pivot off 72.93 was a great exit level and was right proud of my patience on that trade (my initial target had been 73.17 and I trailed for more). But I thought there'd be that classic CL bounce to re-short and it just crashed.

I am sad to say I shorted @ 73.55 (12:13pm) and covered @ 73.00 (12:32pm), and looked forward to re-entering short on a bounce. Hahahahahahahaha...that Crazy Market sure has a way of toying with ya

I'm interested in the timing of your entry. What compelled you to put on this trade over a holiday, prior to the US market opening tomorrow morning?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

And you ask the child whether they would buy or sell and they most likely will choose the obvious (buy) for the obvious reason (because it's going up) and end up with a very good trade.

How do you handle someone asking you about trading stocks, etc?

On June 23, 2009 my friend called me and said that after being in cash for the longest time, she had 3 stocks she wanted to buy because she did business with these companies all the time and they were great companies and she just knew they were going to be great investments. The stocks were...

    It beats digging ditches..hopefully

Agreed, it's a good read the first time, an outstanding read the second time, and I think I need to read it one last time to master my final hurdle in achieving max profitability. It was a huge step for me to be able to let a small winner stop me out for a loss, and to let a decent winner...

    It beats digging ditches..hopefully

Yes, OW, this is a key step in trading for a living. The stop loss is the cost of admission to the trade. If you can't accept the stop loss, if you move stops to break even too quickly, if you trade without a stop loss, you will find it very difficult to succeed as a trader. DD, great trading!

I didn't trade today, but this morning I did my daily bar-by-bar analysis with entry/stop/target and immovable stops, without having seen any of the chart in advance. I took 9 out of 9 qualified setups immediately upon close of the 5-min signal bar. Six trades with-trend produced 104...

How to increase profit without increasing size?

Innovest, good to see you're still trading. I hope my comments below help you give up your bad habits, and wrong thinking, and get on the path to consistent profitability (which may be small at first). "Unwilling to cut loss" is NOT an option for the professional trader (one who must make a...

    Passage to $1 Million

Yes, I understand what you're saying here, especially "when what you know doesn't agree with a setup". My trading roomies sometimes say, "Donna, that looked like one of your setups, but you didn't trade it, and sure enough it didn't work." And it was because I had these other reasons, these...
