Curious, Why did people pay 180's for X ?

They produced significant earnings growth in 2007 and continued in 2008, providing upside guidance. The market looks forward and bid up the stock. X followed through nicely by providing $18.24 earnings per share in 2008, making the $180's a very reasonable price at the time. By the time X was...

Market was definitely overbought and should find support around 1080-1085 to keep the uptrend intact for a 3rd push.

No thanks. Took a spin on my favorite wheel in pre-market (the breakout wheel) and it seems to hit my number every time :D

Do you use stops and if so are they fixed stops (always 2 pts for example) or based on specific levels that vary with each trade?

Tired of people downplaying averaging down

I agree, these are the easiest trades of all. You're trading with the trend, you're entering where all the stops are located (both counter-trend protective stops and with-trend entry stops), stops become market orders when triggered and fuel the move, meaning even if it's a false breakout, you...

Hardest and Most Valuable Things In Trading

You wanted questions for stock trading expertise that would quickly allow one to sift the gold from the non-gold. "Expertise" insinuates that you are looking for someone who is an expert. A person can experience enough consistent success that s/he believes s/he is an expert. However, to...

Hardest and Most Valuable Things In Trading

One question should do: A perfectly balanced coin is tossed by a perfectly calibrated machine 50 times in a row and comes up heads. What is the probability that this coin will come up heads on the 51st toss?

The trenches are more fun. For one thing you don't have to speak for hours. Plus, I outdid that guy! I made $260 in 20 seconds today :p

Yes I do. Yes I saw it. Yes my stop would've been just a few ticks. No didn't trade it, violates my "recess = no trades" rule. OK, eating lunch now, short at will!:D

    CL Redux

That's why I liked that particular level for a breakout trade via a stop order. There was a magnet below that made the R:R very solid to me and the stop order places you in the direction of price movement. Very low risk/high reward. Once crude has made a few pushes in one direction, I have...

    CL Redux

That's why I covered too quickly. I assumed another short covering/bounce after a 30-tick move because price had already come down so much. The violence of the next down bar sort of put "so much" into a whole new perspective!

I would like to confirm that having a sell stop at the LOD well in advance of price getting there prevents slippage. Not a tick of slippage despite the viciousness of that breakout.

My days of most regret are when I wait for a pullback to enter a trend and it never pulls back "enough" and I watch price drift up all day. Sometimes you just gotta hit the buy button.

Hardest and Most Valuable Things In Trading

The more I narrowed my focus the easier trading became. I had some good times with ES before and after 5/6. But my true love was CL and I've been almost exclusively trading it for the past 2 1/2 months. However, it's been trying my patience for some time now; the number of trades that show me...
