I agree and I spent a bit of time yesterday and this morning steeling myself to follow rules. I had an incredible trade in pre-market, patiently following my rules. I stuck with my rules later as well and let a 24-tick profit stop out b/e, BUT if I violated my rules and locked in 20 ticks too...

Trend-following will provide the most consistent profits if you learn how to trade with the trend properly. The way to learn how to trade with the trend properly is to pick an instrument, stare at it for at least 2,000 hours then formulate your own ideas.

What you trade and what time frame you trade isn't as important as learning how to trade. The hard right edge is simply the place where you enter a trade. We can all look to the left and see how obvious something is, but can we look at price right this moment in time, recognize what it means for...

Early this morning I had a short position that moved over 100 ticks down (I managed to trade it in bits when I could've just held it the whole way). Late morning I had a long trade that moved over 140 ticks up (I managed to trade it in bits when I could've just held it the whole way)...

89.75, but I expected I'd get at least 50 ticks. The fact it didn't just run really hard out of the gate and it pulled back a few ticks after the break through the HOD made me jump the gun on the exit. :(

I need trader counseling. Long .98 (slipped 2 ticks on entry, despite having my buy stop in place for at least 20 minutes). Took 20 ticks profit, despite saying "measured move" at least twice when discussing the buy stop earlier. Picaso, just say something nice so I can stop whining. :D

Ha ha! I read a comment on ET once where someone was commenting on price just running higher and higher and you want to go short because buying seems so wrong at that point. The quote was something like, "You just have to hold your nose and buy." :p

In my limited time studying the market I've noticed that news-of-the-moment (corporate officers retiring/resigning, buyout rumors, secondary offerings) results in reaction-based price moves that, if faded, have a high probability of reversing significantly, whereas fundamentally significant news...

Can't do that. Trade secrets. :D I will however, share my two favorites today because they spanned the entire price range: Short 88.14 at 07:15am ET and covered 87.75 at @ 07:42am Long 88.97 at 10:22am ET and sold 89.17 at 10:26am (arrived very late to that party...)
