Thanks everyone for the reply’s, I have done a pretty good job predicting IV in weekly equity options going in to earning using historical data. But now we are in a whole new volatility cycle and the instruments have changed since 2008. Just wanted some input. Thank you everyone

Is there a way to predict future IV levels on equity options based on what range you predict the VIX to be in the future? It's difficult to use historical data because the last time the VIX was this high we did not have the amount of weekly options that we have now. any help would be appreciated.

I did the exact thing, I was about to pull the trigger on a long put spread when it was at 800 and I chickened out.

I do sometimes have liquidity issues with some equity options. Sometimes I can only get filled on so many on the price that I want.

Investment bankers can trade billions. Prop traders can have any where from 5k to 10million maybe more buying lower. I have 200k buying power with my firm. Im trading anywhere from 5k to 20k per trade.
