Look at it like this and maybe the US bull market is quite young?

Let's not forget the Fed's QE is what inflated the stock market up to these levels. The Fed has just started to unwind QE. It will only be a matter of time before it will have it's effect the stock/ real estate market. I think once they have transferred assets to mom and pop and euphoric buyers...

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

I think what I meant by staying away from the herd is my observation that when I buy the stock is on nobody's radar and when I sell the stock is on everybody's radar. This is based on my time spent in chatrooms etc.

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

You can sugarcoat it however you like but in my book a half truth is a whole lie. If you or anyone else doesn't want to post the whole truth then it is better to not post at all. Silence is better for the sake of your conscience which is more important than your "intelligence".

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

If people are intentionally being ambiguous then what is the point in being on this forum? If people only reveal the unimportant info and keep the important info close to their vest then it is more worthwhile for newbies to spend their time analyzing the market themselves rather than on this...

    Paper Trading

That is correct, I have a real money account where I trade with a 1k position size and a paper account where I trade with a 20k position size.

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

Most of these responses are ambiguous. To give you a simplistic answer, for me personally I get in before the trend. That way if it breaks out and fails I can get out without a loss or a small loss. Also if it does actually trend, I have a good enough room/buffer to get out profitably when the...

How many higher highs/lower lows then is considered a trend?

I dont think anyone has addressed the real question the OP is asking. If you get in too early in a trend for example the 1st higher low you risk it being a false breakout and the trend not continuing. Whereas if you get in too high/late in trend like the 2nd or 3rd higher low it carries higher...

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

The problem with being part of the herd is by the time the herd gets in the price is already half way up the move and by the time the herd gets out the price is already half way down. So you either end up break even or with a loss. In contrast, when you anticipate a move and get in before the...

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

These people who you described make up what percent of the volume on the stock market? I know such people do exist but their impact on the markets is negligible so I don't consider them the herd. I consider them non entities.

This is exactly what I was thinking! Thanks for putting it in better words than I did!

How do you stay ahead of the herd/majority?

The key to making money trading is to stay ahead of the herd /majority. However, I find most books teach strategies for chart reading that are more or less the same. Those chart reading techniques are what the majority follow. You can't be doing what the "majority" are doing and expect to make...

    Paper Trading

I have a systematic trading formula and I am curious to see how much I would make applying it methodically without the emotional element that comes with trading real money.

What is special/unique about Al Brooks' strategy

I keep seeing Al Brooks mentioned in many posts. And I did a quick google search. From what I see his method is exactly the same as other charting books like Edwards and Magee which I have read. I am curious to know what is so special/unique to his method/strategy that is not found in other...

    Paper Trading

I see what you are saying. I already tried paper trading with scottrade and interactive brokers and their interfaces sucked. Order entry is only one of the skills that a trader needs. The most important thing is whether my strategy works with large position sizes over a long period of time like...
