    true story CNBC reporter

Someone on one of the other threads came up with Maria Butt-aroma. LOVED that one! Cashin's the only one I unmute the TV for during market hours. His 30 seconds of dry wit is worth more than the other 389 1/2 minutes of blather from the rest of 'em. Mark Haines has got to be the winner of...

    Connection problems

IB's fine today. TWS is rock solid as has been since that last spate of problems 2 weeks ago when they rolled out version 764 Are you using version 762.1? The newest version is very problematic.

    Home alone vs office

As Vikana posted earlier these boards are MUCH better than real people who are probably not as knowledgable as some of the folks on this board. Elite's a great way to stay in touch with the human side of trading. I've had several jobs in the past and this is probably the single best way to...

    Home alone vs office

I trade porfitably from home as well. I don't want anyone being next to me when I trade. Even when my wife comes inside my home office I get nervous because I just like to be alone when a trade is on the line. That's just me. I set up my office exactly the way I want it with multiple...

the start of the new BULL ???

What I also found interesting today was the TRINQ was hovering between .7 and.85 all day. Hardly the bullish sentiment of last Wed when it was betwen .15 and .20. Also today's afterhours action was mildly tame compared with last week's CSCO performance. Yes you can say it was priced in, but I'd...

the start of the new BULL ???

"There's money on the sidelines. We've seen the bottom. Everybody I've spoken to is expressing optimism. There's strength in this market! It's poised to make a higher open and build upon last week's gains." - Maria. "The futures are 6 points above fair value and getting stronger by the...

    something different?

I have the same problem. Elite's been dial-up slow since about Thursday.

    shorting

The old saying that the risks of shorting are much higher because when you're long a stock it can only go to zero but a short can go to infinity is crap in a bear market. Lately many MORE stocks have gone to zero than infinity! So who's got the real risk?? You can lose your ass just as quickly...

    Qcharts + IB = ERROR

What I find really interesting is that my laptop is running a Linksys PCMCIA card and Win2k with no Java problems but the desktop choked with a Linksys PCI card. Maybe like someone said, it's the driver.

    Best and Worst CNBC Commercials

In that iShares commercial where Henry is protecting his advisor against germs, that guy looks very familiar. Was he the actor who played Jeffrey the dentist in 1978's Body Snatchers? That actor also played the Angel Beach sheriff in Porky's. Sure looks like he would look 20 years older.

User Names On Elitetrader (a fun thread)

After having read through this thread I feel like "Oh, yeah, nice name there I chose. Really used your imagination!" LOL I guess when you pore through charts 12 hours a day it gets in under your fur.

    Qcharts + IB = ERROR

As for QCharts I tried it once and found that it spent half the day switching servers between sunnyvale, boston and sterling. Nice software but the datafeeds were horrendous. The software was reliable, though, but who gave a sh*t when the screens would turn grey (no data) every few minutes??

    Qcharts + IB = ERROR

If you're running with a cable modem and your network card is a Linksys that could very well be the problem. Mine caused all kinds of Java problems. I kept denying that an ethernet card could have an effect on Java but finally gave up and tried another brand (the motherboards' on-board LAN mfd...

    SEC Fees in IB

I notice that IB doesn't deduct the SEC fees on sales of securities like Datek and many others do, at the time of the sale. Is this a year-end adjustment issue or do they absorb them? (I don't know how with their low fees to begin with)

    IB connection problems AGAIN

Datek's Streamer was a Java applet and that was also an adventure. There were some times when it would just refuse to load, sometimes it would stall, restart slowly, stall again, then "play back" the prices as if it was on a time lapse tape. This was in Win2k, then XP, with 2 different cable...

    IB connection problems AGAIN

All I can say is that every time I visit a website and I have problems it's always a damn Javascript that causes it! Browsing has been such a pain in the a$$ lately because of Java this and Java that. I can't count how many times a week I have to close most or all of my open IE windows because...

    IB connection problems AGAIN

Yeah I'm sick of blaming my ISP, cable modem, network card, operating system, etc for their shitty service lately. Personally, I'm giving them only a little more time before I go somewhere else. I left Datek because for 3 months all I heard was excuses and constant bullshitting about their...

    IB connection problems AGAIN

There's also a lot of slippage with their "BEST" order routing.
