It could relate to the java install rather than the tws jars though. And the new java may be more pedantic than the older versions. I've always used the same accounts for install and running so can offer no other observations.

Yes. You would really only consider the morning and afternoon sessions. If you are looking at this time then also consider STW (Taiwan MSCI on SGX) and SPI (Aussie). STW is $10 a tick, SPI is $25. They generally move a little better than nikkei but not like hsi.

No one uses IB charts ... well no one admits to it. Try SierraChart. Or EnsignSoftware. But not the TWS charting :)

SierraChart is responsive and has chart trading that works well with ib.

And SierraChart is not free but the price is low so you might find the improvements worth paying for vs qt.

Re the asian session: STW starts and hour before HK and SPI and Nikkei start trading 2 hours before HK. I think Kospi is similar to spi and n225. So you don't have to wait for HSI.

If you use something like autohotkey every keyboard is programmable. It probably depends exactly what you want. I just set the keys on my numeric keypad to trading functions (and I could alt, ctrl, or shft them for 3+ times the number of functions). But you get the idea.

If the relevant exchanges are open then IB will connect you to whatever capabilities they offer. In some cases the after hours offering from an exchange is more limited. You must also turn on the out of hours order capabilities in tws. As always, you have a bit of homework to do.
