    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

Is it possible the stress is frustration from opponents in the game, losing a big pot to a suck out on the river? Would you qualify it (the stress) as having less confidence/edge in your poker if you were to run into multiple scenarios like that? Bankroll is really key, can you give some...

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

I've been trading for seven years, the 20% i was referring to are those black swan events (think of m&a) you can get an idea of risk in any position at any time but there's still intangibles (unlike in poker). I agree with you about execution, but there are times a setup will arise in something...

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

Yes and in that 20% of a potential blowout...some intangible will happen that you never thought possible...for my style of trading you can't apply a distribution to setups like you can in poker, such as, 'well that was the trade of the year' and when something like that happens who knows if and...

    TRADING CAREER vs POKER CAREER

I would agree on a constant that maybe trading is less stressful, but if you look at it variably it isn't....remember that you can take time to think about a decision (especially live) in poker, in trading those critical seconds can wipe you out.

Would you fund a trader to help him out?

I agree with these comments here...and I strongly, strongly recommend against not taking on family/friends money...I've traded personal money and other accounts and it will affect you. I'd like to see some kind of results too, just for curiosity because I have a tough time with your claim of...

    Is Prop Trading equities/commodities DEAD?

Thanks for clarying that (i'm being sincere), even if firms like GS where their equity trading accounts for only 20% of trading revenues it doesn't take away from the topic of this thread...prop trading and the issues regarding the lack of liquidty. These are the issues we can educate the...

    Is Prop Trading equities/commodities DEAD?

No this comment was not directed toward you, the risk free strategies i'm referring too doesn't apply to anyone on elitetrader. I think you're really missing the point....the crash/direction of the market was not was I was referring too, I'm talking about the abuse of the system. For people...

    Is Prop Trading equities/commodities DEAD?

I think the majority of traders have adapted. I'm a hedged trader so my timeframe was beyond the standard 'day-trade' although I would like to see my daily volume increases I'm not gonna fight something that isn't there.....what I don't think you or the other critiques of this thread realize is...

    Is Prop Trading equities/commodities DEAD?

Very well-said! If you don't understand this comment, then you're not trading or haven't been trading for very long.

    Is Prop Trading equities/commodities DEAD?

Did you trade the day of the flash crash? You can't tell me because of all this subpennying, flash trading, intenationaliztion, ect. isn't responsible for the lack of liquidity out there. The reason the SEC is having these discussions is because that day those firms responsible for all the...

    bob bright

...well not to badmouth my boss and all his talent, but being very well-capitalized and having that time element gives you a lot more flexibility than the guy with the small account forced to lighten up a trade because his leverage is too high....obviously the screening of the position in the...

New guys, now is not the time

I just commented in the thread about the trend trading, if guys are struggling in that, then they really don't want to try their hand at mean reversion, holey fack! I'd really like to see how other firms and longtime traders are doing, I don't think it's a coincidence share volumes have...

Trendfollowers: When oh when are we going to start making some $$$?

I find this thread interesting because I'm primarily a fader. Many of my colleagues and I have found this to be the most worse environment ever for mean reversion...

Series 7 Exam for a future college student?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this before, but you need to be sponsored to write the series 7 anyway. And yes for you it's not something you should even being to worry about while still in school....on an unrelated note last weekend I did the con't education for the series 7, talk about a...

So Goldman Sachs just had a perfect trading quarter...

I'd like to see the trading revenues if these banks didn't have subpennying and dark pools.

CF & TNH vs the others

Keep in mind that the first few you mentioned deal with nitrogen (which is directly affected by the prices of natural gas) primarily while the others have a mix, potash being the core in POT obviously. Remember not that long ago these guys came out and were crushing expectations on earnings...
