Life after death is clearly real. Why do people still ridicule it?

Death after life is a real thing. Nobody ever came back here. But then, why would they?

What would you tell your 18 year old self about trading/investments?

At least in the UK, a university degree after a 3-year course remains a good-value ticket into the interview room with most employer offering decent jobs, while offering an enjoyable and life-building experience. Choice of degree is important - as has been said, there's little point getting the...

What would you tell your 18 year old self about trading/investments?

I know I was clearly thinking the highest secondary qualification available. What's best is a big question indeed, but I was thinking best in terms of which most impresses most employers and supports the widest choice of careers.

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

You don't seem to understand there are two types of gambling - one is a game of pure chance (like a lottery or roulette), the other involves skills/knowledge/expertise (like horse race betting, blackjack or trading). Unfortunately English only has one word for both. I live in the UK, where...

What would you tell your 18 year old self about trading/investments?

    1. Get the absolute best education you can 2. Get a halfway-decent job 3. Get a mortgage for a decent house in a decent area 4. Maximise pension contributions and start planning early retirement 5. Get a trading account and start long-term trading 6. Put nothing in stocks 7. Don't spend...

When do you think this bull market is going to end?

Absolutely agree. Its just something I don't need to think about as a trader. If the bull market ends tonight, it will take me about 90 seconds to log on and close whatever long positions I have open. Being absolutely truthful, even if some guru told me exactly the date and time when the bull...

Is fundamental analysis less important than technical analysis in forex?

I don't think TA should be used to predict what prices will do, its a business planning tool so it is really for predicting what the trader will do. Nor should TA be burdened with having to identify the causes for why price did this or that: charts don't make prices move, they just display the...

Is fundamental analysis less important than technical analysis in forex?

No, its just that the effect of FA events / news etc. show up in price as TA, in which case your stops / orders / manual trade management take care of it.

Is fundamental analysis less important than technical analysis in forex?

I don't think its simple and I'm not even sure FA is worth any private retail forex trader's time.

Is fundamental analysis less important than technical analysis in forex?

How did you combine both TA and FA so that you reached your trading goals?

Interesting. I have to admire your tenacity in spending so long on this. What're the basic principles of your system?

    hedging vs closing position.

The only time I have hedged is when I've been heavily long on the Dow index value via spreadbets. The most serious risk is obviously a fast collapse in the index, so at that time I will also have short spreadbets on individual stocks which are falling. If these are going down while the Dow is...

Defining a Strong vs Weak Trend

I use simple tactics to gauge trend strength. For me, the % rise is immaterial. Momentum is interesting but I'm most concerned about historic consistency. I track criteria such as the following - last close above/below 50EMA? 20EMA above/below 50EMA? 50EMA sloping upwards/downwards? number of...

Submitting new buy stop orders where my cash cannot cover all orders

I'm in a different situation (using a spreadbetting account) but I've been through the subject as I typically trade forex with a large number of open positions and pending entry orders. Some of my firm's restrictions might be applicable. Firstly, if one of my pending order's entry prices is...

FCA makes ESMA’s CFD restrictions permanent, but allows higher leverage on bonds

Thanks for the research. The ESMA measures are simply making a permanent requirement out of what was industry best practice. Of course, tougher regulation also raises barriers to entry by small, cost-cutting and nimble competitors and I have to think that ESMA's main concern is the stable...

    Fundamental analysis

Fundamentals move markets as they are the prime driver of the big banks, and only the big banks can move price. But when they move price, you will see it in the charts. Fundamentals which don't lead to price moves are not worth knowing about.

    what causes gaps in stocks?

Gaps occur between the closing price on one day and the opening price tat the start of the next day. Its not technically the first quote of the day nor the price of very first trade of the day, so the precise opening price should always be taken with a pinch of salt. But gaps occur and they are...

    Trading Profits

I'm not responding to the poll. Whatever I vote for, it can't help you: whatever you might reply, that won't help me: whatever the majority vote for, that can't help anyone. I might be tempted to vote in a % gains poll, but probably not.

Inconsistencies between candlestick charts & long extended candles

Almost certainly the long shadows on these cr@p charts are the results of incorrect price data input. You could double check with a broker's demo account or better a live account. But if you have a live account and you're afraid the broker will spike prices down to hit stops on long positions...

    High Probability Trend Strategy

This is correct, but the rule has been abused by extending it to trading. Also learning a foreign language and heaven knows what else. I'd go so far as to suggest it would take 2 days to learn a simple profitable forex trading strategy, plus 1 day for familiarisation with the platform.
