    Position trading calls and ideas

Not a specific call but I'd just like to flag this up. I use this for the 28 important forex pairs: if the 20EMA is above the 50EMA and both are sloping upwards, I'm long if the 20EMA is below the 50EMA and both are sloping downwards, I'm short So I guess you can know what I'm in / getting into.

How to size up capital appropriately?

I would never let my trading account grow to 10M. But if I had 10M to trade with and lost 10% of it I'd still be very happy. 'Course, if its 1M of someone else's money, then that's a big deal.

How to size up capital appropriately?

Maybe that is also why the bulk of the fund industry's results are so close together? - the only way one of them could have made extraordinary gains would have been through taking extraordinary risks.

How to size up capital appropriately?

Think of your positions as % positions, not $ positions. So as the account grows with profits, you keep each position size at the same percentage of the account capital. You only have to make 6% profit per month to double your account in 1 year.

Realistic returns expectations of successful day trading

What's the point of this whole thread? Asking how much you can make if you become a successful day-trader is like asking what a gold-mine would be worth if you struck gold on a weekend prospecting trip.Or how much your land would be worth if you struck oil. Or how much you could sell your ideas...

When do day traders pay the tax and how to do it ?

All correct. No worries with pattern day trading, no shorting restrictions, no scalping restrictions, no complications with lots and contracts and micro-lots. No negative equity risk. Client funds in segregated accounts. Deposit protection up to £85k. No income tax, no capital gains tax. No tax...

When do day traders pay the tax and how to do it ?

Sorry guys, I can't resist - as a UK trader using spreadbetting to trade markets I never have and never will have to pay taxes on my gains. No matter how large. Don't even have to submit a tax return.

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

That's a fantastic idea. I just bought a ticket in a raffle in which the first prize is a monkey so obviously I'm in.

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

Its not me who wants the results, its ES. I know what trading is and I know its not defined by a popular vote. I already posted way back that trading is NOT gambling but the only people who don't understand that fact (not opinion) firstly don't understand gambling, and secondly they don't...

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

The results (so far) are displayed on p1, if you've voted. It currently stands at 65.2% "Not gambling", after 14 years of voting. Jeez, even Brexit didn't take that long.

    LOST

Hi Dom - the only reason to pay for forex trading training is if you're in too much of a hurry to collate all the information which they have collated for their clients/students. You're not buying special knowledge, you;re paying for them to make the effort to collect all this stuff and...

One of the Best Trading Tips I ever Got

There is indeed no way to know whether a trend will last for 20pts or another 200. Which seems an odd reason to not be in that trend. I only trade off the daily charts but the principles are transferrable. Once an uptrend is established, I want to enter long following a resumption of upward...

One of the Best Trading Tips I ever Got

In practice this is just not true. Once price has established a trend, the least likely thing it will do next is reverse. That behaviour alone provides an edge. Of course, price in a trend doesn't just continue in a straight line, but some form of continuation is the most probable early outcome...

    Who rules the charts?

Had some similar thoughts recently. I am purely a trend-follower, using only the D1 charts. That said, I usually enter by pre-set order on a counter-trend bar. For example, in an uptrend when a recent daily bar has printed with a lower high and lower low, I would set an entry order at the low...

stop the positions after a certain gain ...

There is no way on my platform so that you can set all positions to close simultaneously when the unrealised gain (or loss) reaches a certain total. This can be done manually by either closing all positions in sequence or by clicking on the "Close all positions" button if your platform has this.

what is the new FCA trading rules ?

The reduced leverage rules were introduced in 2018 and limit leverage on CFD's (including spreadbets) to - 30:1 for major currency pairs; 20:1 for non-major currency pairs, gold and major indices; 10:1 for commodities other than gold and non-major equity indices; 5:1 for individual equities...

    Tattoos and time preferences

Tattoos are a weird decision. I find them neither good nor bad and I hope to never treat tattooed people differently. But I have an issue with the ones who complain about the negative perceptions they receive. Deluded hypocrits.

    Everything's correlated? :(

Yes, most large markets are more or less correlated with risk, positively or negatively and traders should consider whether they want the risk of multiple correlating positions. But apart from that what is your objection to correlating markets? Correlation is a useful indicator that obviously...

Managing risk of unpredictable, abrupt tweets that cause volcanic reversal action

Agreed on leverage. My highest is 1:20.
