What is the point of living?

There is no deep meaning to be discovered from living. Pursuit of happiness is a nice pastime: when you occasionally find some, that's a nice bonus. All this beats being not alive any more.

which moving avgs do most traders use?

Yes, I use MA's as a time marker in this way. So, for example, I give extra weight to uptrends according to the length of time price has been above the 50EMA and how how often weekly bars have been pierced by the 50EMA. MA's have more uses than most users or critics generally see.

What is your recommended spreadbetting broker? (UK)

From your approach, it sounds like you'll be scalping or at least day-trading. If so, surely you've also heard that spreadbetting very short-term is almost impossible to win at? But maybe your system has an edge to overcome this?

which moving avgs do most traders use?

I use 3 EMA's, very similar time periods to yours, 20, 50 and 200. But the more interesting question is what to use them for. For the purposes of my (trend-following) strategy, when they stack in the appropriate sequence, price is in a potential trend. So, from top down, 20, 50, 200 makes a...

Technical Analysis is total rubbish! Here's the proof!

Not literally shoot themselves, but they may feel like doing it I suppose.

    Charts?

This is good perceptive stuff lcranston, and probably goes to explaining why traders entering off a single bar/candlestick or precise combinations of two or three bars don't do so well in the long run. iccenuol - Keep it very simple. Look for an uptrend. Understand how you recognised it as an...

What do you do with your excess cash?

If you're UK, spare cash can go into Premium Bonds - government guaranteed, prizes equivalent to savings interest rate p.a., which is not fantastic, but there's a chance to become a millionaire each month.

    Women and life balance

I would suggest keeping away from girls who are happy and fulfilled through weekend affairs. Waste of a whole weekend. And not the sort of person you might want to spend decades of your future life with. You could just pay for sex like a gentleman and then go off and do other things. When you...

Technical Analysis is total rubbish! Here's the proof!

I'm sure most people use TA wrongly. Most new traders appear to see an uptrend and immediately shout "Whoopee! How can I get short on this?"

Technical Analysis is total rubbish! Here's the proof!

I suppose the first forms of TA-based trading were a) buying because price has been rising, and b) buying because there'd been a pull-back in a series of rising prices. These forms wouldn't even depend on graphics, just sight of daily closing prices, which is all traders had at one time. These...

I don't understand what you're talking about. It might be me. Anyway, in the hopes I will understand the next answer, what are you looking to achieve here?

    Trading Experience

You don't know my returns, you don't know my market access, fees or costs or how I trade. Seems you've come to do the telling, not to do any asking. So, I'd like to ask again, have you posted how you trade?

I think you could be right. Its just that we're dawdling a long time before we get to the close. Plus, I can admit without boasting to having had more attractive solicitations.....

    2% stop loss rule?

Xela, the post positive poster on the site. And knowledgable too. Thank you so much. T.

    2% stop loss rule?

Good, this was the most tedious discussion I've had since leaving local government. The 2% rule is not used to determine stop-loss placement. Stop-loss placement is decided using TA. The rule is a position-sizing technique. The aim is to ensure that no individual trade ever incurs a loss...

    2% stop loss rule?

These are absolutely fine. Using these principles would allow a market-sensitive and rational placement for the stop-loss. None of which would exclude the applicability of a maximum risk of 2% of account capital. Elder talks repeatedly about using TA to locate the stop-loss. He says the 2% is a...

    2% stop loss rule?

Well I'm not going to argue on this, I don't day-trade, but I've no reason to think you're wrong.
