Signs that this is hell: "There will be gnashing of teeth"

Look at all this. Three pages. 28 posts. I didn't think we were in hell before. I know we are now.

    College Is Not An Option

Public sector pension deals in the UK used to be better than they are now. e.g. my local government pension is a final salary deal, and these have been closed now I think. Things are still better than most private sector occupational pensions or off the shelf pension investments but public...

Trading for a living & taxes in EU

If you don't mind being taken out of the EU in a couple of years, you could move to the UK and trade via spreadbetting. This is legal here, controlled by the financial regulator and totally tax-free - no need to form a company or even complete a tax return. The leverage rates are under threat...

    What is your FAVORITE indicator?

Enough to abandon all off-chart indicators. I just use 20, 50 and 200EMAs now. It's going well. For me, long-term trend-following is the only rational approach and off-chart indicators don't add anything significant.

    What is your FAVORITE indicator?

No. But I'm only half joking - he clearly indicates multiple indicators is better than one. I tend to think one is bad enough.

    What is your FAVORITE indicator?

So, the more indicators, the better the model?

What to trade; individual stocks, forex, futures?

It can be fun and exciting, but only in so far as chess can be fun and exciting.

    What is your FAVORITE indicator?

I don't trust or value off-chart indicators like MACD, RSI, stochastic etc. If I was compelled - by law - to choose just one single indicator, as I am trend-follower, it would be the 50EMA. Price can be above it or below: it can slope upwards or downwards (or flat-line for a day or two): price...

Trading Winning Positions - The optimal approach

    Me too. Who does that?

I am 98% convinced that the way to profitably trade by yourself is like this

Yep. There are basically only two strategies for trading - buy because price has been going up, or sell because price has been going up. Each makes absolutely no sense to practitioners of the other.

What to trade; individual stocks, forex, futures?

Partly its do with the higher leverage rates available forex trading plus the narrower spreads plus the infinite liquidity of forex compared to smallcaps. In % price change terms, forex pairs are much more stable than stocks. The also don't suffer from the depth of overnight gaps: strictly...

What is the point of living?

The point of living is its better than not being alive. If you don't believe in an after-life, you can choose how you go through life and how to get out of it what you personally want, i.e. what makes living worthwhile and more enjoyable. Having just one of your chosen objectives is better than...

I walked away from trading with nothing after more than five years.

Price can move either up or down, either between previously visited price levels or towards new unknown ones which are higher or lower than any previously visited. The wide range of behaviours available doesn't mean its doing any of these things randomly. Price behaviour is only truly random on...

Trading Winning Positions - The optimal approach

Thanks, its an interesting post and I'm going to have to go over it again more thoroughly.

Trading Winning Positions - The optimal approach

I've been a trend-follower for several years but found that there were two reasons why I started losing money a little while back - 1) I started being selective about only taking strong trends: I make money when I take every trend that fits my basic criteria. I don't know of a way to pick...

Trading Winning Positions - The optimal approach

I only open and only add to trades that are with the trend, if there is one. I don't have as much faith in top-picking and bottom-picking as I do in recognition of an uptrend and a downtrend. I also don't put as much faith in a young trend that's just come off a reversal and inherently has no...

foreign aid does more harm than good

Agreed. If country A "gives" money to country B, its because next time country B needs tractors, country A expects it'll be "Made in A" tractors that they buy.

FCA slaps GBP 1 mln fine on Interactive Brokers UK

Well, respect to you Sig. I have encountered a minority of companies and company owners that wanted to actually exceed UK legal requirements and I have only respect for them. But, sadly, my experience has been that most see regulation as a barrier to be worked around. If its any consolation, I...

foreign aid does more harm than good

Nobody sending money overseas as foreign aid is giving money away.

Trading Winning Positions - The optimal approach

Not deliberately. I only take trend-following trades, that's what this grid/pyramid system is built to capitalise on. So a trade might unintentionally be on a mean-reverting instrument (probably in the wrong direction) but I'm blind to this characteristic when selecting the next target. I look...
