    Fighter pilots & traders

On Friday I saw the latest reality based TV show on CBS. It will follow a group of military pilots as they train to become F15 fighter pilots. As I watched the show I saw some similarities between fighter pilots and traders. Part of the training involves mastering the flight simulator. The...

    Intraday/Swing Plays

Seanote: Would you say that your results since you have posted to this board have been typical of your trading style? Are they above or below your average or are they in line with past results? I am also curious if you trade any differently since your trades are now "displayed for all to...

    Intraday/Swing Plays

I am really enjoying this thread. How do you size your positions? I typically size mine based on my stoploss point and the amount I am willing to risk. For example if I am long at 42 with a stoploss at 40 and I am willing to risk a 1k loss then I would buy 500 shares -- 1000/(42-40).

    Option commissions

This may be a dumb question but why are option commissions so high as compared to stock commissions?

    Intraday/Swing Plays

Seanote, I have to agree with the use of stops on options. My first experience was with the OEX. I had a stop order at $10. The bid/ask were both above $10. Later in the day the market fell and when the ask price hit $10 my order was triggered. The spread was $1 and I was out at $9. Since...

Who is the better technician, Alan Farley or Gary B. Smith?

I tried Gary Smith's service for 2 months and then cancelled. I could come up with many of the same picks myself using TC2000 and the scans that Gary published in "Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities" a couple of years ago. I will say that the question and answer portion of the...

    Options Broker?

I trade the OEX through Schwab's Sreet Smart. Commissions are high, but I have real time charting, real time data etc. I love having the OEX chain updating in real time. They also have conditional orders, but I haven't tried that with options (only tried it with stocks). What ever you do...

    Trading Maxims/Quotes

As I used to sit in a monthly meeting at an Engineering firm I worked at (before I became a trader) - the CEO would tell us that the good times were just around the corner (I think we traveled in a circle then). While he was talking, the following thought always played over and over in my mind...

    OEX Questions

Do OEX options fall under the 1256 rule and therefore qualify for the 60/40 tax treatment and marked to market? Does the wash sale rule apply to OEX options? If they qualify under the 1256 rule I would think that the wash sale rule would not apply.
