    Any bear traders out there.

I'm not in any equities / indices positions right now, waiting for a consistent long-term trend. With indices these would usually be up. If and when I do get long again on the US indices I'll tow along a raft of sell orders on weak individual UK equities, there was huge recent divergence between...

Billionaire Ray Dalio Says “Capitalism Is Not Working” for Most People

Nice. The US likes to think its the champion of free enterprise. It is indeed doing well but is actually only a runner-up. The World Bank ranks the US 6th easiest country in which to do business, after New Zealand, Singapore, Denmark, South Korea and Hong Kong (but 1 place ahead of my beloved...

Billionaire Ray Dalio Says “Capitalism Is Not Working” for Most People

What theory of economics leads you to conclude that economic activity would increase when the people making the extra effort will get exactly the same income as if they'd never bothered, i.e. as much as to pay for their needs? In abstract terms, surely, the greatest incentive for society to...

Billionaire Ray Dalio Says “Capitalism Is Not Working” for Most People

The mistake many make when drawing anti-capitalist conclusions is that they look only at outcomes and not at opportunities. Capitalism simply offers greater opportunities for self-advancement including but not limited to wealth. Its always going to the the case that those at the apex of the...

Are you serious? You're both going out on such a limb here........

Do you think the markets will fall next week?

I always start my TA of every chart with a snapshot of basic set parameters. Results for the Dow are - 20EMA slope = upwards = Bullish 50EMA slope = upwards = Bullish 20/50EMA sequence = 20 is below 50 = Bearish Bullish / Bearish close sequence of weekly bars = 2 up = Bullish (but not much)...

Runners Vs. Set Target to exit

Letting your winners run is the conventional advice but is so hard to do. The reason its so hard is that each "run" winning trade rarely gives an extraordinary individual profit, while the accumulated "run" winners don't give an extraordinary return. If it worked we would see it working and it...

why does a stock move several days after its news?

All the valid reasons given why stock prices don't adjust instantly and permanently on the emergence of new fundamentals, suggest (but do not prove) that TA works.

    Trading and Emotions

Fall back onto mechanical trading to keep your confidence in trading up and to maintain awareness of the markets, plus your income. e.g. make all entries and exits using pre-set stops, trading longer-term as necessary for the time being. Make no decisions in trading, except what are the rules...

Using the SMA and EMA together

Mixing types of MA in a strategy has no intrinsic value. The choice of an MA period or of multiple MA periods must be derived from the strategy, not the other way round. You can mix up EMA's and SMA's, it makes no difference if you do or if you don't. But any indicator used, including MA's of...

How to avoid Knowledge Bias in Day Trading ?

Absolutely. What's the worst that can happen? - Price goes the way that you calculated was less probable and you lose 1% of your account. So now you can only trade with 99% of your capital. How bad is that?

Ex bank trader uses hourly candles of hsi to day trade

Sounds like he's a conventional long-term trend-follower who wants to appear as a day-trader. Or maybe he has some evidence that holding overnight would present an unacceptable risk.

Does anyone know whether this chart picks up dividends paid?

I understand what you're trying to do, effectively chart return on your own investment or capital employed. However, without the start date equalisation for both charts, how can it help? Imagine two shares, both priced at $50, both pay $1 per share per year dividend but one has been in...

Does anyone know whether this chart picks up dividends paid?

A price + dividend chart would be useful if you're a shareholder and assuming you can set the initial date from which dividends will be aggregated to the share price, i.e. the date of your purchase. But misleading to everyone else.

    New Swing Trader

My rule on stocks is to exit all stock long positions if the Dow or S&P close below the 50EMA and the 50EMA is sloping downwards. Believe it or not, this would have got most traders into cash before the Wall Street Crash.

You staying out because of the election?

Hoping so. This sort of division curbs the power of the president and government to do bold and strange things.

How To Manage And Measure Risk If Volatility Is Not It?

Volatility is a major risk and using a volatility-based stop-loss is one way to respond, setting a stop at say 2 x ATR20 out from entry, or using TA to find a suitable s/r level which is not less than 2 x ATR20 out. But this sort of risk is amplified for swing or reversal traders or chart...

    New Swing Trader

Welcome BeartoBull. I so hope this endeavour goes well for you. I'm not qualified to reply in full to your points. These don't make up the full picture on swing trading anyway, the subject is so complex that no single 500-page textbook, let alone a few forum posts, could fully explore it...

You staying out because of the election?

Changed my "Cautious Sell" on Dow and other indices to "Wait" in view of last week's bullish performance. Had no positions open last week on the US markets but thought it better to close FTSE100 short as likely to track Dow's bullishness. I don't have a policy of staying flat across events like...
