Is it time to throw in the towel?

You trade break-outs intra-day and you're not sure what's causing the negative results. There's two things you might change right away.

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

I tossed a coin and it came up heads, "Not Gambling" so that's what I've voted. Seems like a good strategy to me..............

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

I agree, its meaningless. Maybe its a computer translation.

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

I know that Vis, but the stupid losing traders who complain about their stops getting hit don't know this. I was trying to convince them how stupid they are, not that I am as stupid as they are. You do realise I recommend always using stop-losses don't you?

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

Yes, I know legit brokers don't trade against customers. But its a nightmare scenario that many losing traders complain about. I was trying to demonstrate their irrationality. 4 point hits? Ridiculous. This is just a scenario, an example with simple numbers of the guys with simple minds. I do...

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

The main argument against setting stops is that because you have declared where you want to be stopped out, your broker will move price to trigger your stop and they will pocket the proceeds. There are obvious flaws in this whole scenario. But leaving these aside, let's suppose you use a mental...

Corbyn as PM - price target for Sterling?

I was just trying to rationalise the GBP's movements in response to newsflow. If correct, its not my opinion, I'm past caring about Brexit.

    The Book of Luke

While there's little doubt the US healthcare and income tax systems are defective in the extreme, while the immigration regime is a muddle, the answer to these issues is not Socialism.

Absolutely sure Dennis and others said the rules were not the special part of the strategy, it was the discipline to follow them. But I do hear from time to time that trend-following cannot work now. That it was a temporary successful formula that could only work in the 80's or 90's or...

Yes, its still true, it will always be true. He did say himself that the reason the Turtles failed to make money was because they failed to follow the strategy. Anyway, so many respected traders and investors lost money as well as making it, that their final account balance cannot be a deciding...

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

ATR20 is Average True Range averaged out over 20 bars - daily bars in my case. The range is the distance between the day's high and the day's low. ATR20 is a commonly used averaging period and many traders use 2 x the ATR20 as a way to calculate how far away to place a stop-loss: so, price would...

OK, yes, on paper it works. I look forward to trying this with a bit more discipline on the best trends.

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

    1. Makes no sense, I never use a fixed ticks SL. 2. Currently using 2 x ATR20. Intend to trial trailing this after entry (revising the distance to the SL of course as ATR changes) 3. I don't set take profit targets, doesn't make sense in a trend-following style, but if the trade moves 2 x...

Corbyn as PM - price target for Sterling?

Vote for Corbyn or move to Venezuela, its the same outcome.

It worked. Trend-following with a volatility-based stop will always work if coupled with strict position sizing and pyramiding, though I hate buying at a new high/selling at a new low.

Life after death is clearly real. Why do people still ridicule it?

In what sense can a soul be real? Only the belief in souls and the spirit can be real in this context. As for life after death, maybe it only happens for those who believe it will happen. So I can only hope you enjoy all that infinite time.........

Surely, anyone who can afford such an expensive house has people who exercise for them? And then someone to post about it for them on a forum.
