Any advice for a soon to be full-time trader?

I understand average cost of living in the US for a single person is $13.2k. But I assume this is no-frills, no luxuries, no fun and certainly no saving. If you've got a good strategy and you follow it, assuming no withdrawals you should be able to double it in a year. But its going to be...

    is market random?

Absolutely. We don't have to be right every time or right for ever. Just often enough and for long enough to make some money. Taking this literally, in the case of trends, there are only so many things price in an established trend will do next - continue pull back and then continue...

    is market random?

Anyway, depends what is meant by random, and what is meant by market. Even an unlikely outcome from an event can be used to make profit. Like the definition of prevailing wind - south-west where I live. This does not mean wind that blows most of the time from the SW, it means wind here blows...

    is market random?

Stocks which drop in price are relegated out of the index (or the companies are wound up) as their market caps fall. Either way, new companies with larger market caps are inducted into the index so it always looks like stocks are a one-way bet.

What is your basis of strategy to enter a trade ?

"The reason" is an aggregated set of reasons so in that sense there cannot be a unique reason for a given pattern making itself visible over a given time-frame. A unique reason would at least suggest a unique sentient decision, or at least a unanimous consensus of the group of market...

What is your basis of strategy to enter a trade ?

Can there really be mathematical proofs of patterns? Chart patterns are formed by the actions of "investors" which are based on their desire for profit against their tolerance of risk against the time available to them for this particular market position. There will be a spectrum of...

    newbie question.....re stock indicators

Steve - you're relatively new to trading and you're up to speed with Ichimoku? Most traders never move to anything so exotic - they either wipe out or become profitable way before getting as far down the list as Ichimoku. So I'm thinking you have found that losing traders lose through using...

Banksy's former agent quits gallery world citing snobbery

I love where he is quoted about Banksy - "He had something to say". The only thing Banksy had to say was that he's always been a self-absorbed slacker. Graffiti and cartoons don't make a sub-culture.

A poor Eu Trade deal could cause a recession, you're warned!

Yes. They think that we think that we are special. And they are right. We do. And we are......

A poor Eu Trade deal could cause a recession, you're warned!

I understand that your field is economics. But the Leave vote was made on political/populist grounds not economic evidence, and as I said I believe that will happen again if the public get to vote on EU membership again in either a referendum or an election. You could present the best economic...

A poor Eu Trade deal could cause a recession, you're warned!

No doubt you mean well but it seems that a substantial percentage of the British public are not with you. They are not being deterred from Brexit or a even no-deal Brexit by concerns about a possible recession. Its not an economics-based view but it will impact the process if there's another...

Billionaire investor on Elizabeth Warren as president: Market might not even open

Yes, US healthcare provision is a sad mess. But please don't hand over the country to Fidel Castro's grand-daughter just to get that put right.

Billionaire investor on Elizabeth Warren as president: Market might not even open

Surely most of the rest of the world felt like me at the time, the two worst possible presidential contenders that could have been found. I do feel for the Republicans, it would have been better long-term if Hillary had won, served one calamitous term and let the Republicans back into the White...

What's everyone using for hardware these days? Is everyone using laptops by now?

Sure, it has to have internet, an OS and a screen. But beyond these universals, increasing spend on hardware is very unlikely to increase the return from trading: decreasing spend is very unlikely to disrupt profit flow. So how is it important?

    Monday Markets Survey

Risk on/risk off is the most important question in forex. Forget iron ore mining tonnage in Australia, forget the NZ GDP, ignore what the Japanese PM says (he can't change anything anyway), assume whatever the ECB does will be too little too late, never listen to any news from Switzerland...

What's everyone using for hardware these days? Is everyone using laptops by now?

Surely hardware is the least important element in successful trading? FWIW I'm on an Aspire PC with 8MB RAM, OS windows 10 Home. It never fails. Though I do intend to get a laptop at some future date as I intend travelling more. But it won't be anything to email home about.......

Wait a minute! You're not a Herr Wittgenstein from Vienna by any chance are you? Just passing the time here under an assumed name?

A message to some day traders.

I've never read any Wittgenstein but I don't think he was a trader. Still, you say TA doesn't work because it can't work. I say most people can't use it effectively, and the vast majority of them are trying to use it intra-day. But there are people who are using it effectively, on a year in...

A message to some day traders.

We all know the few important reasons why new traders don't succeed. As far as TA is concerned one of these is because they blindly and poorly apply TA to intra-day trading. Which is not to say that TA doesn't work, even intra-day, its more to do with how it is applied.
