    Estimation Theory Trading

Do you mean to tell me that if I am unable to trade successfully, all I need to do is write long winded posts on ET? Then I can be either a want to be quant or guru such as yourself?

My high school summer job: trading the NQ

While I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor, trading on the NT sim is not “ultra realistic.” Check back after your first week, and I think you will be able to recognize what I mean.

Both Charles Cottle and Sheldon Natenburg's books explain synthetics, and hence, option arbitrage opportunities. The market's efficiency has eroded most of the opportunities in these trades, but understanding these relationships is very beneficial.

How important is TA to option trading?

By the "behavior" of the underlying, what exactly did you mean? Other than direction, I must assume volatility. I am not aware of any reliable TA that helps to forecast vol, although one might exist. I would start with either Natenburg or Charles Cottle. Both are excellent.

How important is TA to option trading?

If you can correctly predict the future price of the underlying, you should trade the underlying. Volatility and expected volatility determine the price of an option. You can get direction correct and loose money trading options. Get educated on options before giving away your money trading...

Traders Need Only $8 to Buy Barrel of Oil: Massive Oil Supplies: 'Peak Oil' Is a Myth

Ten years ago when oil traded below $11.00 on the NYMEX and cash oil was getting below $10.00 per barrel where were all of you experts? Since it is so "obvious" now that prices are high because of hedge-funds, was it not just as obvious that prices were too low then because of excess...

To answer your question, any broker that offers TT's X-Trader. X-Trader allows you to see and create options spreads on CME/CBOT markets. MMs will typically respond, but most of the volume in this product is still transacted in the pit. Even though it is 2008, you are still better off in the...

Not applicable? I think your statement proves my point. Never going to happen is perhaps more appropriate.

He has no idea how it's like out there

Wouldn't it be nice if CNBC had a policy that every commentator and guest had to post an audited p&l? No p&l, no appearance. That would siphon off 99% of the garbage they show day after day.

Risk more than your profit goal during non-trending markets?

Stop placement is directly related to the strategy being traded. There is an idea perpetuated in the retail world that risk reward needs to be 3x1. That is complete nonsense. The system must have positive expectancy, and the person trading it must fully understands it and have the personality...

Is it possible to achieve the right state of mind for trading?

I completely agree. P&L is simply a way keeping score like runs in a baseball game. When it is put in the proper context, one's attention can be focused on the process and not the outcome, which usually boosts performance.
