TSLA Crashes to $5 per Share

I'm sure the car company that has the number 1 & 2 car in California is going to go bankrupt in 16 months? I guess Toyota which is number 3 is also going to go bankrupt, then? How is your 30% loss since Dec 14 going?

    Roast my portfolio

69% in Fintech? Your 59% position seems outsized but yeah it is a very cheap company. In 2019 GPN made $6.17 and is suppose to make $10.36 next year and yet it trades at half the early 2020 price. At a P/E of 11 this think could easily double in a normal economy. PYPL is a lot more expensive at...

Best Online Stock Trading Platforms of 2023

I've had Datek cum TD Ameritrade since the gogo '90s and their stock execution was always excellent. Since the pandemic TD Ameritrade probably has the best options execution even better than IB on some tickers. They have improved since the August 2015 yuan devaluation where TD was unusable for...

GOOG caught eavesdropping on users - for the U.S. government

I think it was also true in the early 1970s film The Conversation which was based on memoirs from a former NSA agent. I think even Enemy Of The State was based on the writings of a former NSA agent (Gene Hackman plays pretty much the same character in both films). Its interesting that both...

    Crypto mining Stocks

Marathon Digital (MARA) is probably the best of the miners. I believe Robinhood (HOOD) & Coinbase (COIN) are more leveraged plays on crypto currencies. Coinbase is the best I believe since its really the last legitimated CeFi/exchange not including Binance. COIN is up over 100% from the bottom...

Please guys, GET IN THE MARKET SOON

The boy plunger (aka Jesse Livermore) strikes again! I agree with this. Seems like every day when the markets go down buyers just come in and buy it back. Even today I noticed the same thing especially for the speculative stocks. Most of the markets were down before the Fed decision, however...

How long can you safely hold 3x leveraged etf?

I agree that the more volatile an underlying index the worse these daily leveraged ETFs will perform. UDOW will perform better than TQQQ in a down market -- UDOW -21% vs. TQQQ -62% in the last 12 months. What iprph90 stated is undeniably true as well -- TQQQ is still up 50X since its debut in...

    T >V< ESLA - V Recovery

It could be at $200 by Friday. Tesla is a very impressive company, I have to say. They keep pumping out incredible sales while the "competitors" talk about competing in 5 years. Ford and GM are a joke, maybe Nio or Lucid can give them competition but I doubt the traditional car companies will.

    Barra.. tin foil hat...

American car companies suck big time. Every US car my parents bought was junk. From the Dodge Dart, to GM Vega, Pontiac J2000, Ford Escort and the worst car my mom drove the Ford Granada -- an incredible POS where the engine blew up 9 months after my mom bought it. GM, Ford and Chrysler are...

    Apartment sizes

I think in the US (at least here in California) apartments aren't that much bigger than western Europe but its the houses in the suburbs that are very large compared to Europe. I live in a 750 sf (~70 sq meters) 1 bedroom apartment near downtown Berkeley and its probably worth about...

QQQ, SPY Jun 30th 2023 Put Options

I checked the -1X ProShares ETFs like SH & PSQ and they both had some drift. SH vs. SPY under performed by 1% and the PSQ vs. QQQ was 2.3% under performance for the past six months. That was surprising but I guess the more volatile the underlying ETF is the more it under performs.

Covid was bery bery good to me

It seems like your reprint business really went parabolic in 2018 and just went even more parabolic in 2020 & 2021. As a number series its interesting that if you ignore 2020 & 2021, the 5% yearly increase (starting from 2018 & 2019) gets you to the 2022 number and predicts ~8300 for 2023.

Weekly Showdown... VTI vs VEU. Fight!

As a follow up, November 10 was the day I would say US dollar (UUP is what I use) was a sell. Since then it is really Europe itself that has outperformed over the EAFE, S&P 500 or even Emerging markets. Italy & Germany (+15%) seem to have fared better than laggards like the UK (+10%).

Weekly Showdown... VTI vs VEU. Fight!

I think EEM & VWO use different indexes as a basis for the portfolio (MSCI vs. FTSE) so they aren't exactly the same. In my mind the only reason to buy non-US ETFs is when the dollar is falling which it is. It peaked around mid October so yeah VEU has done better than VTI or even VWO. In the...

It seems that earnings will be mixed if not outright bad

That bank stock action was unreal. JPM & WFC went up 8-10% intraday. Coinbase was downgraded to sell a few days ago and it went up another 20%. It seems like every day this market goes down intraday and it closes unchanged or higher. The "pain" trade is higher but it doesn't make much sense...

Weekly Showdown... VTI vs VEU. Fight!

I voted for VEU. If inflation persists it will benefit the industrials, materials & energy stocks. US is leveraged for high tech but those won't do well in a 5% world. In reality I'm betting on EEM (VWO in the Vanguard world) and especially Brazil. EWZ is incredibly volatile so not for the...

Finally, an economic predictor we can believe in

Most companies especially the ones who dole out RSUs by the millions instead of actually accounting for employee compensation pretend it is a write off while diluting their shareholders. None of those companies abide by FASB and just make up their own "adjusted EPS" which is just a scam. Just do...

    Bitcoin Price Thread

As a security, if it is one, BTC has behaved like a "risk on" security similar to the high P/E NASDAQ stocks unlike precious metals which so far have behaved like a protection against currency drops. I think it makes sense since BTC as a security is a long dated security where there is no money...

    Is the crypto winter over?

The rise of BTC is in line with the rise of ARKK and JPow is not going to be happy. Get ready for more more pain from the Fed. BTC & ARKK are just measures of liquidity and "animal spirits."
