How do you recognize a commercial trade block?

Back in the early to mid 1990's, when the CBOT was in the process of giving away the entire enterprise to CME and Globex, the CBOT had an off hour electronic trading system called "Project A". There was a scrolling ticker banner on the bottom of the screen that listed trader's acronym and...

    Principle based day trading strategies

Speaking for myself and my clients, we take losses all the time. Sound position management is the closest thing to a universal "holy grail" in terms of reality and the independent speculator. If you are the type of personality that requires certainty, I cannot think of a worst endeavor than...

    SpreadProfessor Clients - Thanks !

I wanted to comment on the relative merit of the independent speculator somehow becoming privy to the intimate details of block trades - and if that constitutes an edge. Having personally taken part in block trades with respect to commercial energy and having witnessed many in the interest rate...

How do you recognize a commercial trade block?

Having personally taken part in block trades with respect to commercial energy and having witnessed many in the interest rate markets, IMHO your premise reveals the primary illusion re: block trades as an edge identifier. The executing parties ( let's say GS or MS or BoA or Knight, et al ) are...

    Need Advice

I have a client right now that I've been training for 16 months. Full time job. Wants to keep it. He has been paper trading for 14 months with returns and metrics that are exceptional - he wants to start live trading his own account early 2017. I have another client who I spent 18 months with...

    Trading strategies

Once I read this thread, I logged into the website. Looking at the monthly tiered subscriptions for the participation package, the monthly subscription for the software package, and the online store prices for the learning modules - by my read that's several thousand dollars over a period of...

    Scale in/out vs. all-in/all-out

I can see scaling out for profit (dependent upon position sizing and target range) but I am a strong believer in taking a loss at once and in its' entirety once the stop-loss level is reached. Just my own 2 cents, YMMV.

And it's only gotten to be superhero level to scalp these days. That's why the Chicago prop group business model morphed away from point-and-click and into far fewer firms and high levels of automation (more or less).

    Trading strategies

One-on-one mentoring would be superior to buying subscription-based generic training modules IMHO. But whatever. If you wanted to learn options spread trading, there are some excellent texts and exchange-provided materials. Maybe get a charting package with delayed data and paper trade it...

    Need Advice

When I was at DE Trading / ITG in Glenview, IL as a prop trader, my closest friend was a HUGE Schatz scalper. He kept his part time job selling athletic shoes in the City for a very, very long time. He had that job to help him through his start, and he just kept it even when making serious...

    Rollover Day...

Yes, I would agree in terms of day trading (and even short term swing trading) rollover has so many variables in terms of order flows that even the best trading systems can be steamrolled. Again, in terms of day trading, scalping, etc. IMHO stay with the second month as soon as its' volume meets...

    Research help on Contango

Generally speaking with respect to physically fungible forward (futures) commodity contracts, the prompt months are driven by spec order flows and to some extent commercial use demand considerations, the rest of the curve is almost exclusively driven by commercial supply considerations. Mav...

    Can market profile help scalpers?

Having firsthand taken Steidelmeyer's Seminars at the CBOT in his seminal years, IMHO just having the MP study on your charting platform isn't enough - you really have to have a very good understanding of how to use it properly and in context. That applies for all TA for that matter. My...

    Futures slippage

That's happened to me like twice in my career (early 90's start). Both times, resting unfilled balance of order got filled in minutes. Spreads are thankfully much more forgiving than outrights. Also, I talk to my clients about matching limit order pay up tics in sync with market vol / avg...
