    Options Trading Strategy

It's hardly news that you can profit from selling options. I sell call and put spreads on a regular basis. It is essential to use a good stop loss policy.

Flat real estate until 2013 = No need to buy now

This story is from trader Jeff Clark: "I live in luxury and I haven't made a mortgage payment in almost two years," Don bragged. He sipped his chardonnay, leaned against the country club's bar, and shared with me the story of his real estate prowess... "I paid $3.4 million for the house in...

risk of short puts on leveraged etfs

My math is correct. My point is that if the underlying ETF goes down and then recovers to its original price the 2x version of that ETF will not. If you don't understand this go ahead and trade those leveraged ETFs at your peril.

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

All the editorials I see favoring this tax are by clueless idiots who put all financial people into the same category that they call "bankers". They make no distinction between those who actually caused the crisis and those who did not. Who caused the crisis? Lots of people: 1. Main...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

On stocks the 0.25% tax is equivalent to tripling my commission costs. On forex, if that 0.25% is on the amount of money controlled, it makes short term forex trades unviable. The point of this tax is to kill off traders, who were not responsible for the financial crisis.

It's much better to buy slightly OTM options than ATM ones?

Well, you are paying more for the volatility on the little bit of the option price that is time value, but there isn't much time value on a deep in the money option. And even with an ITM option you can still get several times the leverage of just buying (or shorting) the underlying.

you just knew this was coming. palin working for fox news.

The Republicans *have* a viable candidate -- Ron Paul. The only problem is, the Republican establishment hates him. He tells the truth, which is always going to be upsetting to a mainstream politician.

It's much better to buy slightly OTM options than ATM ones?

A fair question, and there's no hard and fast rule. The deeper in the money the higher the delta, the lower the leverage, and the less the time value -- in short, the more the option acts like the underlying asset. High delta is good. If the underlying stock creeps up 0.25 an in the money...

IB ad on inside of Futures and buying power?

I do question the wisdom of such an ad. Having that much buying power in my IB account is all very well and good but I'd be fool to try to use it all. One good March '09 style crash would wipe me out. There are better ways to earn 25% a year. They are riskier than getting 3% from a bank...

Bill Gross recommends front running Uncle Sam?

Yes, but how will the Fed keep long term rates low? By buying the massive new debt that has to be issued. About $1.5 trillion in new debt has to be issued to fund the deficit, and another $1.5 trillion is needed to roll over the short term debt that's maturing. Foreigners will buy less than...

Is this a good idea for options??

Well, in another global market panic people will dump stocks for short term treasuries and gold. This could push up the prices of both gold and the dollar. My guess is that your trade will work but it's not a sure thing.

It's much better to buy slightly OTM options than ATM ones?

Agreed. When I first started using options I tried buying some OTM options on a clearly uptrending stock. Well, the option sellers weren't stupid. They priced a lot of volatility into those options. As it was, I was lucky -- the uptrend continued just enough that I was able to sell at break...

risk of short puts on leveraged etfs

Well, I learned the hard way not to sell puts on leveraged ETFs (I lost $6000 the first time I did that and will never do it again.) The thing to keep in mind about leveraged ETFs is that once they go down they stay down. Example: Suppose the unleveraged ETF has a price action like this...

Federal Reserve Made Record Profit in 2009

My feelings exactly. The profits were on the interest earned, so the Fed is still holding the bonds. If and when the Fed tries to sell them, who's going to buy them? The government is now borrowing $1.5 trillion a year. Plus there is about $1.5 trillion of short term debt that has to be...

Taxes: Can a Trader Relocate to tax-free locale?

Congress and the IRS love you -- you are the cash cow that funds their junkets, salaries, and the idiot government programs that they use to purchase votes with. How could they fund wars fought thousands of miles away against countries that never attacked us without people like you? If you...

    50-100% monthly returns

If anyone can consistently get 1% per trading day (compounding to 23% per month, 1099% per year) then please show us your certified brokerage statements of the past two years proving this. I, for one, will beg you to run my money.

7 million lost jobs: Gone forever?

Keep in mind that our government insists upon importing one million legal immigrants per year, and wants to give amnesty to about 20 million illegal immigrants. So there has to be steady job growth just to keep the unemployment level from rising further.

put to call collapsed as people refuse to short

I just stopped out of my last short position (I got a small profit, it would have been a big one if I closed it a couple of weeks earlier). But I'm watching the stock and if it pops up enough I'll short it again. The market has priced in a recovery of the economy, while the fundamentals...

    50-100% monthly returns

I don't think that God could make 50% a month *consistently* trading Forex (or anything else). A very good Forex trader (better than me, certainly) might consistently get 10% a month.
