How do you trade low-volume markets?

Thanks for your answer. What about strategies using limit orders? Can market makers profit from these kind of markets, or do they too prefer high volume markets?

How do you trade low-volume markets?

Speculators believe they are able to profit from the markets because the markets are inefficient. Wouldn't that imply that trading low-volume markets would be more profitable than trading high-volume markets because they are less efficient? General consensus in other threads seems to be "stay...

How do you trade low-volume markets?

What is the best way to trade low-volume (ie. lightly traded) markets such as the mini-ags? Are there any advantages of trading a low-volume market over a high-volume market?

Do you mean a paper trading account with Interactive Brokers? You can trade this just like trading a normal account, through the TWS platform.

    Most popular trading instruments

But its the people I want to know about. According to exchange volumes, FOREX is the most popular trading instrument, but that doesn't mean there are more FOREX traders than S&P traders. It just means that FOREX is traded in higher volume.

    Most popular trading instruments

Sorry for the ambiguity. By "popularity" I mean the number of individuals who are trading the instrument. I'm not so interested in what the hedge/mutual funds and prop firms are trading, more the individual trader. I would think that exchange trading volumes would be too strongly influenced...

    Most popular trading instruments

According to my broker, most people are into stocks and index futures. Why is that? Is it because of high liquidity?

    Most popular trading instruments

I wanted to get a gauge on what the most popular trading instruments were and by what proportions. I know there are people who trade several instruments, but just enter what you trade predominantly or what you specialize in.

Free Historical Price Data for Futures

I should mention that I have since discovered that the free data provided by the Turtle Trader website was actually quite good and not full of holes as I had thought. I had a bug in my software that lead to data being "lost", but since fixing the problem, the Turtle Trader data looks to be quite...

Free Historical Price Data for Futures

That's good to know, thanks. The 25 year limit was told to me over the phone. I paid for the historical futures data with Norgate (premiumdata.net) and received my paypal receipt, but I still cant download from the site for some reason. How long am I supposed to wait? Do they send me an email?

Free Historical Price Data for Futures

So I went with Norgate. It has been mentioned a few times in other threads. Thanks a lot for your help.

Free Historical Price Data for Futures

That looks good, thanks. When you say "full" history, do you mean that they provide the individual contract histories as opposed to a continuous contract history? At a $67 single time fee, I think I will go with this one. Have you ever had problems with the quality of the data? Are there any...

Free Historical Price Data for Futures

By CSI you mean http://www.csidata.com/ I imagine. Thanks for your information, but I find them to be expensive, because after paying the subscription fee, I still have to pay almost another $200 ($10 x 20 years) to get the data going back to 1985. Also, for some reason they only offer a...
