    Question about vertical call spread

Given that I've clearly indicated I'm looking for a cash settled option on not only the S&P 500 but specifically ES, suggesting a stock settled option on a Nasdaq-100 ETF is singularly unhelpful!

    Question about vertical call spread

I was actually hoping you were right, the SOQ thing doesn't work for what I specifically need to do and for some esoteric reasons would prefer ES to SPX weekly options which are what I have to use now.

PG&E stock: Balls of steel stock play

You're definitely thinking about options in the right way by focusing on volatility. However put options on a stock that's going to approach zero are a special case where that might not be quite as applicable. No matter the volatility, there is an upper bound on the put profit. Probably an...

    Question about vertical call spread

I'm seeing "Option exercise results in a position in the underlying cash-settled futures contract." for all weekly ES options (and all other ES options), including Week 3...

PG&E stock: Balls of steel stock play

Keep in mind the difficulty of closing a put position when trading halts on a stock, be that temporary or more permanently. You do have to provide the shares to "put" when you exercise. Sometimes it's not worth the extra couple bucks at the end when you factor in your capital being held up.

Zuckerberg: Pledged $3bn to “cure, prevent or manage” all disease by the end of the century

Couldn't agree and disagree with you more. Each of your points is completely correct when it comes to the sadly avoidable health conditions that impact millions and account for a big chunk of healthcare costs. But not every disease is avoidable. Diabetes is a perfect case in point. The majority...

CBOE and vix market makers sued for vix manipulation

You need to understand the nature of the manipulation. I can absolutely guarantee that even if the manipulation alleged turns out to be entirely true you would be due less than $100. You didn't lose your money because of this my friend.

An Indian Company Announced 63,000 Job Openings... 19 Million People Applied

I didn't know that about Nadella. That's good to hear, I feel the same way when I see the number of CEOs of big U.S. companies who "just" went to solid state schools, it makes it clear that performance matters more than what school you went to. I think closing the gates based on university...

An Indian Company Announced 63,000 Job Openings... 19 Million People Applied

That is insane, both University of Delhi and the IITs. What percentage of the IIT applicants do you think are highly qualified, i.e. they would do well if they attended? And what do you think happens to the one's who are well qualified but don't get in, do they all end up with degrees or is that...

An Indian Company Announced 63,000 Job Openings... 19 Million People Applied

Ah, but that's not accounting for how hard it is to get into Harvard given you're an Indian from India. Gotta be way worse than if you're a random white kid from Topeka.

Sears preps for possible liquidation as Lampert bid fails

Lampart's been milking Sears dry for years and has configured it exactly the way he wants it. He already effectively owns the company as a bondholder and has already sold all the profitable parts to other enterprises he controls, so he wins any way it works out.

London post-brexit as a financial center

Yeah, landed there, spent the night on Syntagma Square, did a several day road trip around the Peloponnese, back to Athens and stayed the night at the Alimos marina, boat trip around the Saronic Islands, back to another night in Alimos, spent the next day kicking around Pireas waiting for a...

London post-brexit as a financial center

I ran into this same effect when visiting Greece during the worst of the financial crisis when currency controls were supposedly causing lines at every ATM and non-stop protests. In 3 weeks I never waited more than a minute at an ATM, all had money, and the only protest I saw looked more like...

    SEC affected by shutdown?

If it helps, keep in mind that SEC enforcement isn't generally done by an agent sitting in the pits or monitoring a live feed and catching someone "in the act" of manipulating a market. It's all done based on research of the historical data they have access to. As a result, the impact of them...

Hedge fund managers looking at shrunken bonuses this year

Agreed, inertia seems to be high when it comes to re-allocating AUM. If a fund fails to meet its stated objectives then criticism is certainly warranted. Just pointing out that those objectives might not always be "show a positive return in every market" as a layperson might assume, so...

Hedge fund managers looking at shrunken bonuses this year

Institutional investors are actually care a lot about things like correlation and modern portfolio theory, and sometimes not a whole lot about performance in a given arbitrary 12 month period. If a fund has the right kind of variance then when added to a portfolio it can dramatically reduce that...

Best place to park excess cash at Ameritrade/IB for short term?

It doesn't, every one of those drops is the dividend. As an aside, if that was the actual chart this would be an absolutely astounding stock, you could short it at regular predictable intervals and make an infinite amount of risk free profit! If you can shed our natural bias for "up always...

Token Exchange Enables Trading of Nasdaq-Listed Companies

I can't imagine they would be allowed to take U.S. customers under SEC rules, are they just banking on the supposed anonymity of cyber currency?
