Not too bad, just 4 ticks add: which didn't matter at all once that move got underway, lol

    CL Redux

I've always wondered, do institutional speculators use actual stops or do they simply hedge large positions?

Uh...stop runs tend to stop cold after several ticks. This is some serious buying volume.

I felt like an idiot for placing a buy stop above the HOD when there was no significant pullback on the 1-min chart, but I learned long ago that the "idiot feeling" is often an ideal trade trigger :p :p

That sounds so mean when I read it. Did I really do that? The mean people must have gotten to me. :p On a more serious note, anyone with some good book-learning can critique trades after-the-fact and it can be really helpful if the trader being critiqued is making clear mistakes in...

    CL Redux

After a strong move like the one to 99.50's there is usually a decent pullback on the 5-min chart, so I watch for that first. Basically, once the high of a previous 5-min bar breaks opposite the trend, I wait patiently for more pullback, especially off a psychological turning point such as any...

I've heard the follow through on those cannellini bean/genoa salami salads can take 10 points out of the market in 5 minutes :D

Ha ha, that's back when so many CL traders I was communicating with were taking 1-10 ticks profit, so I considered that scalping. I now consider trading for 20-30 ticks scalping after following some of you guys here who hold half the day or more through deep retraces for a point+ :p

    CL Redux

I'm an intraday scalper so I look to target minimum 20 ticks and I use tight stops. If a target larger than 20 ticks makes sense, such as in a strong trend, I may hold for more if price is really running, or I may take profit on a push, then get back in on the 1-min pullback. An example of...

It's not a beginner's book, but I believe you should read it nonetheless. It's a comprehensive book and the information it contains is valuable. Even if it baffles you the first time through, the seeds of knowledge will be planted and as you gain screen time you'll have many "Aha!" moments as a...

Or you can take profit, then watch the 1-min chart for a continuation re-entry. When the bots are trying to defend every possible interim S/R level, I sometimes re-enter in the same direction 4 or 5 times off the 1-min pullbacks.

After a couple years observing CL on inventory day, I've come to the conclusion that there's a CFTC regulation stating whatever large price move occurs following the report must fully retrace at some point during the same trading day :p

The main change I'd make to this wise advice is to replace "you can not be a trader" with "you're not prepared to be a trader". :)

I doubt any live calls would convince the OP to start looking for the magic indicator(s)/proper settings, because pepdegree made clear that he trades on assumption with no stops, willing to allow leverage and/or back month contracts assist in this "hold until profitable or you have to puke it...

If I buy here at, say, 1250-ish and I have no stop loss in place and tomorrow morning the market is gapped down to 1150, what is the plan? I mean if you have an indicator (or set of them) that leads price just as it's about to take off, why not place a stop loss just below the S/R level off...

I would never ask a trader to divulge his/her secret sauce recipe, but I am so amazed by the statement that price is always at the mercy of indicators that I respectfully ask if you would be so kind as to post a couple live calls here tomorrow demonstrating this. Something along the lines of...

If you have indicator(s) with proper settings that show exactly when price takes off and when it reverses, can we assume you are unimaginably wealthy and now surf ET looking to pay it forward by telling aspiring that indicators (which by their very nature lag price because they require price to...

Quite a coincidence. The O'Neill book was also the first trading book I read, after my first couple trades. It was the only investing book in our house; my husband had picked it up over a decade earlier prior to investing our retirement accounts. I found out that the short term trades I did were...
