Why is SPY holding at near-record highs with demand driving bond yields down and gold soaring?

$13 Trillion in Government Sovereign Debt is trading at negative interest rates according to Bloomberg. As a side note, no central bank will sell you a negative interest bearing instrument - they are purchased on the secondary dealer market.

Why is SPY holding at near-record highs with demand driving bond yields down and gold soaring?

The “flight to quality” as it were has been fleeting. The fact that the US is the worlds largest oil producer is a geopolitical game changer of seismic proportions. It’s telling that Iranian shenanigans and a full fledged trade war with a China hasn’t taken the bid out of equities. It’s going...

Why is SPY holding at near-record highs with demand driving bond yields down and gold soaring?

Well, that's the point. In order to get sustained order flow in one direction for a protracted period of time - it requires a severe fundamental paradigm change that wasn't largely foreseen in the previous trend. If it's a soft recession you'll see fading earnings reports over a broad front...

Leon Cooperman still has 75% of his portfolio allocated to stocks. And he said today that he's looking for another 6 percent out of it.

Looking for a great book or two on technical chart analysis.

I mentioned something in another post that might bear repeating here - it's a classic example of the pitfalls in technical analysis. I've found that when you're analyzing trend the longer time frames are your friend. (and btw, oscillators like the RSI [and wave counts] have been Armageddon for...

I am legit scared of the future

From what I can tell Asia is in a state of flux as well. Unless you are F*** Y** wealthy I doubt you'll find comfort there. Plenty of geopolitical turmoil and working class dislocation there, too. It's truly wasted energy to worry about things you have no direct control over.

Why is SPY holding at near-record highs with demand driving bond yields down and gold soaring?

Let me clarify my post: I was answering the OP regarding the SPY. Commercial order flows chasing yields in the equity markets. But I agree with your premise; my sense is that many retail/individual 401K investors are lightening up on equities and parking those proceeds into fixed income funds...

    Identifying a reversal (trend change)

I've found that when you're analyzing trend the longer time frames are your friend. (and btw, oscillators like the RSI [and wave counts] have been Armageddon for the past ten years, too) How many false exhaustion Elliot Waves have there been the past ten years ? How many false overbought...

The S&P 500 will top soon at 2925-2930

You're right about the top - but the bigger and much more important story IMO has been the long term trendline bottom we've had in place for ten years now. I've found that when you're analyzing trend the longer time frames are your friend. (and btw, oscillators like the RSI [and wave counts]...

Looking for a great book or two on technical chart analysis.

T/A is for the most part a useless endeavor unless the practitioner has a very deep understanding of what a particular study is sampling and what message it is conveying about market behavior. I’ve seen far more bad applications and mistakes using T/A as compared to wise judicious use. The...

You are correct and the market will certainly come off. Absolutely. But as you’ve also so capably demonstrated: you can run out of capital trying to time the thing.

Of course it will. All markets do. The obvious problem is that you will run out of capital trying to time the thing.

    The Slumping South

All made infinitely worse by a City Council terrified of “gentrification” and who insists on micromanaging the SF real estate market - thereby creating a curtailed, limited housing pool and insane prices. Hipster politicians: the ultimate anachronism.
