After Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy next is Poland

The debt to GDP might been kinda high but by looking at the spreads over bunds and CDS it seems clear everyone thought the party was going to last forever. By selling by the weak members I mean that people will have to sell their €s that they have in hand and in EU banks for the new currency...

After Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy next is Poland

I don't agree that an exit of the weak members imply a higher EUR, never mind a 2.5 rate. In 2007 when the EU was 'working' and yields on PIGS debts were low the rate wasn't nowhere near those levels. Back then almost nobody knew what was about to happen and all the flaws of the system yet the...

He makes a very important statement. The EFSF being AAA might not matter at all, in fact, the obsession with this rating could be counterproductive

I find this research note from William Buiter quite informative, I'm inclined to agree with his conclusions(EU has large financial resources to deal with the crisis, panic has been overblown) http://www.zerohedge.com/news/eurobonds-ruled-out-eurobong-still-play I would like to hear others...

I think he is playing the bounce. He might put back some hedges if SPX keeps rising. I mention that because he tends to go fully long on panics

FWIW I believe its quite likely Hussman has removed his hedges during this panic and is probably fully long right now. He traded like this in the past

I find this consensus that short sale bans are guaranteed to lead to lower share prices a bit suspect. MAYBE that is true in the short-run (though I don't want to jump in that idea with a sample size of 1) There is something about equities being down so much the government gets upset about it...

Belgium, France, Italy, Spain to ban short-selling

Some rumors can create realities in a panic driven market. Banning shorting takes away some incentives to spread rumors, its not just downside to do this

Time Magazine cover putting in a bottom?

I thought the today's NYTimes article on 'its 2008 again' was quite a indicator the bottom might be in

Missed a bit of the action, what caused the market to shoot higher like this? Was it the confirmation of the ban on shorting by CNBC?

I think the BOJ is far more slow and incompetent(I don't think they ever considered a peg) but maybe I should monitor this possibility more. Hard to find currencies to put your cash in, gold has run a lot as well
