Trying to transition from full time job to trading. Having trouble with discipline.

Now I'm confused. You were the OP of this thread. To be fair, it is quite rational for members to voice a bit of skepticism. Do you have the means to support yourself in terms of housing and living expenses outside of your trading income? I ask because with such a modest amount of capital...

Trying to transition from full time job to trading. Having trouble with discipline.

From what I've seen over the years, projecting success in trading is dubious. One of my mentors, David Ellis from DE Trading/International Trading Group in Glenview IL, thought projecting forward in trading to be foolish. Just my own 2 cents, YMMV.

    Nat Gas Futures Condor

Great question. I have CME Core loaded on one of my office PC's, so I couldn't give the exact margin comparisons at this moment, but after looking at the CME website SPAN runs from my iPad I would venture a solid guess that the initial margin for that Condor (4 contracts) is no more than 50% of...

    Eurodollar Futures Spreads

We set profit targets and stop-loss levels at the time of order entry. So, we would have GTC limit orders working at all times while the position is opened. We have a system for determining those stop-loss and profit target levels. In fact, the volatility of the spread in question determines...

    Eurodollar Futures Spreads

There are many, many good white papers in the CME website's educational section. Having said that, from my experience those papers typically explore various uses for commercials to use spreads and are a bit "light in the pants" in terms of speculation. If you're looking for a trading system...

    Eurodollar Futures Spreads

Personally, I'm not aware of a circumstance (outside block trades) where the flat price individual futures is even remotely close to the bid-ask liquidity of the exchange supported spread. There is a somewhat unique situation with the CBOT inter market treasury spreads ( where 1lots are filled...

Sorry, not sure I follow. If you're asking about scale ability - that would be another advantage to exchange spreads, as the bid-ask volume and order book liquidity will almost always be much greater than flat price futures.

    Nat Gas Futures Condor

You can get eSignal with DELAYED US and European futures data for about $100 per month all in. Clients load my custom spread modeling .efs file which I provide. I've had many clients start live trading with only $15K or $20K. In fact, I show them how to use an FCM's execution desk in lieu of...

    Eurodollar Futures Spreads

There's a multitude of wealthy independent traders in Chicago who trade Eurodollar spreads exclusively. For stupid size. Endless combinations - including strips, packs, and bundles versus CBOT Treasury futures or cash or swaps or Infinity and beyond.

    Nat Gas Futures Condor

    1. I was shamed and goaded into switching from CQG to eSignal by my clients in 2009. Prior to that, I had used CQG (and for periods Bloomberg) since 1993. As I recall, I paid about $800 per month or so for CQG with real-time data at the time I switched. 2. That was not the end of the...

    Eurodollar Futures Spreads

It seems like I really have to beg newer clients to start trading Eurodollar spreads. Takes a great deal of patience - I hear many complaints about "watching paint dry". You can easily be in a performing Eurodollar spread for several months. But they do have considerable advantages: they...

Gun violence in UK: Britain shocked as lawmaker shot and killed

You simply cannot compare Europe and the U.K. ( my salute to Brexit ) with the United States in terms of gun control. Or Australia for that matter. Guns have been a mainstay centerpiece of American culture since the Jamestown settlement. There are at least 300 million firearms already in...
