    Crude is screwed, man.

I think the better question is seasonal refinery capacity keeping up with demand. Crude oil supply is aplenty but nobody can do anything productive with an unrefined barrel of oil.

    The S&P has topped

(AAPL) 2Q17 results on May 2, 2017. We'll see if this run up has started to justify itself once we see some 2nd quarter earnings posted. Until then my guess is we continue this sideways range bound wanderlust.

How do you approach trading spreads like this?

Make a determination on how to proceed by looking at the exchange Spread order books. For example, with GE, there might be plenty of bid/ask liquidity on the exchange butterflies or Condors. But with Sugar or let's say ICE GasOil, you'd almost assuredly get more liquidity with an exchange...

How do you approach trading spreads like this?

I just love all this great discussion about Spread construction !! I am so pleased to see mainstream traders outside the world of prop, HF, bank desks discovering the incredible world of opportunities. Yes - retail traders can profitably trade futures spreads, especially if they take advantage...

How do you approach trading spreads like this?

Eliminate the first three months for sure. We actually trade '18, '19, '20. There's a big issue with lag and synthetic Spread expressions - charting the exchange supported Spread solves that issue.

    Crude is screwed, man.

Somehow the term "confluence" - and during an identical time frame one product selling off 3% whilst the other rallies 10.5% doesn't quite hold water. Classic divergence opportunity between highly correlated products.

    Crude is screwed, man.

The classic 3:2:1 Gulf Coast crack spread has an ultra low sulphur diesel component. That used to be; and is in many cases, interchangeable with Heating Oil and in some cases Jet Fuel. The Fluid Catalytic Conversion components are different, and as Heating Oil demand in the NorthEast subsides...

    Crude is screwed, man.

There is a seasonal tendency in the Spring for the Heating Oil to Gasoline Run changeover and vice-versa in the Fall. But you have to look at the spread - flat price won't tell you as much.

    Crude is screwed, man.

First, please stop your whining. The market is full of clues. WORK !!! Second, you listen to MAV but you do not receive. I've gotten plenty of bitching about why someone would pay me to mentor them. Let me give you an example. I've talked about the Crack Spread. Mav has talked about the...

    Crude is screwed, man.

Yeah, and if you knew how to chart the Gasoline Crack Spread, you would have seen that what this August 03, 2016 article stated afterwards was clearly illustrated in the chart for TWO MONTHS PRIOR. It was a very good sell signal. From the beginning of June to the end of July in 2016, they sold...

    Crude is screwed, man.

The use of the term 'instantaneous' was a double entendre of your own origin a few posts ago - I would never have introduced the term into this discussion. Commodity Commercials will be the first market participants to adjust price valuations according to fundamental change into the markets...

    Crude is screwed, man.

From my personal experience trading in the commercial energy markets - it's about as "instantaneous" as markets get. If supply or demand fundamentals change, a commercial desk will 'adjust market valuations accordingly'. Their bonus structure is based upon value added in terms of price...

    Crude is screwed, man.

And has the prompt and the forward pricing curve emphatically shared your viewpoint since you started posting on this thread ? In terms of OPEC's price fixing influence it's fairly well established at this point that the United States and Canada have the supply and production capabilities to...

    Crude is screwed, man.

Wildly overstated given the long term oversupply in the market. I noticed that Mexico continues to spend billions of dollars per year buying puts as a hedge for their domestic production (including Cal '17) - and they've paid off for them to date for the past few years or so. Granted, it's a...

    What Really Counts Getting Started

Here's a topic - in my day trading career (90's early 2000's) I've had to reinvent my "edge".... my "setup"... every 3 or 4 years. It seemed like the bid-ask got too crowded and traded out too fast, or slippage made the proposition too vulnerable, exchange order fill priorities fucked me, or my...

    What Really Counts Getting Started

And that's the catch. Being really good at short term trading. That is a particular skill set not easily mastered these days with a mouse and a price ladder. The bids and offers trade out SO fast and the "noise" makes holding a position tough for most mere mortals.

    What Really Counts Getting Started

Just a side note about independents holding fat accounts: I've had several clients get caught up in the Man Financial and PFG Best shit show. And to say the least it really sucked for them through no fault of their own. I personally got caught up in the Griffin mess in the late '90's but the...
