I think alot of times you put a hedge on adding addition views on other things.... Truely you are never completely hedged... Zerohedge is a good name for that reason.. Sell a call against your stock... Your in a debit spread.. You are taking views not only on the underlying but on vol....

I would think it's just not a good sign.... In theory the circuit breaker in our US markets that was brought into effect the other day was similar a ban on selling... I doubt you'll ever see them use that circuit breaker when markets are rising to fast haha
