Have no idea what technology you using, but something in your post does not make sense. I also run a fully automated algos, and bounce every weekend. You do not for weeks, and it makes no sense. Are you trading live?

There could be other reasons, but GC has to do with it for sure as well. Forcing it, creates host of issues for such a complex environment.

The issue is underlying technology, they picked - Java, and IB is stuck with it now. Garbage collection always have been java weak link. Thee is nothing IB can do about it apart from fully rewriting using different technology. In my view overall benefits of IB overweight flows, not for all of...

My only current issue with IB is loss of access to account on US farm slightly after midnight EST for 5-10 min. I know that TWS needs to bounce ever 24 hours and gateway looses access, but still it is 2019. That damn garbage collector on Java;)

What should they defend against? Anyone who trades with them for a while knows all Flaws and work arounds. Sometimes there are none, and people move accounts to other FCMs.
