One key skill that takes years of practice to get better at and is very helpful, is to be able to recognize outlier high volatility pattern setups where you at a very clear advantage. I like that analogy about environment, much like you can be a great trader but if you're trading a choppy chart...

Great points, again the one thing I learned from a technical trading standpoint about markets is avoid trading much when the stock market is trading inside the previous day's range and the same for anything your trading, mainly because institutional volume and volatility is much stronger outside...

Agree -- Volatility and range (with risk mgmt) is everything :D Not squiggly line t/a etc .... the main use of charts is to show trend and more important, range and directional volatility. Many don't get it. As I say, the math is more important than charts. And I've had sports cars...

Right re UVXY holding through gap down worked out. The CLOV chart is just an example of a gap down continuation. Looking for ideas in case inverses gap down tomorrow. My plan is: - if they gap down premkt and keep trending down before the bell I'll sell all. Will rebuy if they go back up...

Thanks! Excellent example, well thought out. Good points re buying power and leverage differences vs spxu/etfs. I also really like your point re max stop cost is built in eg if it expires worthless, vs managing etf s/l exits. Still not clear though on what exactly to buy, eg what put at what...
