    Primal / Paleo Diet

Healthy societies eat very little processed food. How much animal protein they eat is of little consequence. Processed foods are the killers because they are full of sugar (in many forms) and trigger hormonal responses (primarily insulin) that result in weight gain, diabetes and heart disease...

73 % of Americans think police should arrest Zimmerman

The public mob is often wrong. The entire country was sure that Richard Jewell was guilty. The entire country thought the Duke Lacross players were guilty. Locally, in our city, a man was accused of rape and murder and everyone was sure he was guilty -- until all the evidence was made public...

Was Cheney to old to get a new heart

This morning I heard an interview with John Kobashigawa (sp?), the doctor in charge of heart transplants at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (one of the largest medical facilities in the US). He said there is no official cutt-off age for heart transplant recipients. If the patient is over 70, then...

Property Tax Revolution in North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan; It's Our Home Not Their

How much benefit we get from California's Prop-13 depends on when we purchased our houses. I pay low property taxes relative to my neighbors because we bought our house twenty years ago. My neighbor across the street pays almost five times the property taxes I do on a house of about the same...

Would you have done the same as Zimmerman if feeling threatened & killing was lawful?

I've been a competitive shooter for over twenty years and have a CCW (permit to carry a concealed weapon). The idea of shooting to wound or disable is, in most cases, pure nonsense. If you are under attack you have a fraction of a second to get off a shot and hit a moving target. Your...

Jim Yong Kim is close friends with Bill Gates. I expect that he'll push hard for the FTT.

    Primal / Paleo Diet

There's no evidence that organic foods have greater nutritional value, but there's a lot of evidence that they have less pesticide. http://articles.boston.com/2008-11-10/news/29271514_1_organic-food-charles-benbrook-pesticide-residues "It's clear, however, that conventionally grown food...

    Primal / Paleo Diet

Eliminate ALL processed food from your diet. No sugar or refined carbs (e.g. cereals, pastas, breads, cookies, etc.) Eat fresh organic vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and a small amount of lean meats. Eliminate grains and keep milk products to a bare minimum. Only drink water and herbal...

Lowest Price Paid for MultiCharts >> 6 Months

Multicharts is excellent software with great customer service. I've made back my investment in the product many times over. I don't understand your reluctance to pay a very reasonable retail price for a top-of-the-line product.

"While the Dutch government subscribes to the goal of a transaction tax, the current proposal doesn’t contribute to financial stability and will hurt the Dutch pension sector, De Jager wrote in a letter to parliament today." Another wobbly response from the Netherlands. They could have used...

Rebuttal to Pro-FTT propaganda: I've written (with the help of a couple of friends) an anti-FTT document that will be posted on tortoise's website in the near future. It's a direct response to the pro-FTT propaganda. It addresses the fundamental issues such as who actually pays the tax...

The UK, Sweden, the US and almost everyone else in the world has agreed to support direct bank taxes like the ones proposed by the IMF, but Barroso and Semeta have kept those taxes off the table for serious discussion because they know it will kill off the FTT. The irrational EU commission...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Geithner and Brainard are both leaving after the next election. The FTT will definitely be in play. The only way to stop it is to make sure the Republicans maintain control of either the House or the Senate if Obama wins re-election. The 2012 elections could determine the outcome of the FTT in...

The Obama administration is against the FTT for the same reason as Denmark. At the 2011 G20 meeting in Cannes, Lael Brainard, US Treasury Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, said: “We're very much in sync with Europe on their goal of ensuring that large financial institutions bear their fair...

It will be interesting to see if the Netherlands takes a stand at this ECOFIN meeting. Two Dutch government reports have come out in the last few months that were negative on the FTT (one report called the FTT a "bad idea" and the other said the FTT would cause a "negative impact on the...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I just spoke to a friend of mine in Europe who's watching this closely. His understanding is that stock/futures/options/currency transactions by individuals and small businesses would be subject to the FTT. Bank loans, mortgages, insurance contracts, etc. would be exempt from the FTT.
