Don't miss the chance on Trading (shorting) RIMM

I have no idea if you are right or wrong, and history may very well prove you to be correct. But in the meantime there is no dispute that you are arguing with the market. The market is what the market is. Trades based on fundamental reasoning still require a price-based stop-loss level.

What’s an acceptable max DD for a strategy?

DD's are ultimately a matter of personal tolerance levels IMHO. And at the end of the day, strategy design is heavily influenced by the tolerance level for pain once the system gets tested in live markets and the real money P&L starts printing. The rubber meets the road and what looked so...

confirmation before placing a trade (not pulling the trigger)

Everything is timeframe relative. That is a big part of what I have learned over 21 years of trading. For example, if you are a longer term position or swing trader, you can afford to use a confirmatory signal or cue of some sort. If you are putting on 120 trades in an eight hour session...

Don't miss the chance on Trading (shorting) RIMM

Even hedging your short RIMM position with a long position in Nokia or Apple or the NASDAQ Composite ETF would have been a big stinker. Ouch.

One Man's Reaction To Obama's/Brown's Tax Increases

Sorry, OP. Before I saw this thread I started a new thread in the Economics Forum on the exact same topic. I was not trying to steal your thunder. Certainly eye-popping news. I wonder how many Hollywood liberals are making similar plans. Here's the Forbes link...

Pro Golfer: Why Work with a 63% Tax Rate ?

Golf Pro Phil Mickelson is considering retirement or leaving California or even the United States based on his new-for-2013 63 percent tax rate. I have to wonder how many Hollywood Limousine Liberals are making similar plans. It would appear that California wants anyone financially...

    The rise of the ICE

Great article. Thanks for the post and the link. A tidbit: ICE made all of their money in the early to late 2000's clearing energy swaps; the regulated futures are an afterthought in terms of profitability. Swaps were ( and should be in the future ) the big profit center. The ghost of...

Top post so far in 2013 as far as my personal list is concerned. Brilliant !

Looking for A Futures Prop Firm that accepts Canadians for remote based trading

I meant no disrespect personally. Let me clarify a couple of your points: 1) all of my clients are experienced traders - I generally don't take on novices as clients as a matter of policy, and 2) looks like my trading account is in better shape than yours. Hope things work out for you.

Looking for A Futures Prop Firm that accepts Canadians for remote based trading

In your original post, you said that you were highly profitable and that you could fund your own account. In a subsequent post, you said that you would be willing to live in Chicago for a short while. Every prop firm that I have seen in Chicago starts their new hires out with small size -...

Looking for A Futures Prop Firm that accepts Canadians for remote based trading

A broker, a true FCM ? No way. Not with futures. I think you might be confusing the roles of an FCM, a prop firm using an equities trading business model, and a futures prop firm with membership at a major trading exchange. The latter one is the one you are looking for it seems, and by...

    Spreads in the Softs

What are you "traking" ? We all know that the Dukes cornered the market and that FCOJ is a pure weather play and that Brazilian production is a big driver worldwide and that Jan is a winter month and that May is a spring month.

    Spreads in the Softs

Well, FCOJ-A had 1,130 total volume and March is the front month, so in OJ you would be correct. But for so many other commodities, even in the softs, there is plenty of liquidity further out in the curve. And I personally prefer that playground myself because the spec volume is pretty well...

    Spreads in the Softs

I am curious why you have a tendency to look at spread combinations where the front month is fairly deep into the roll ? You posted this on Jan 18, and according to ICE, the last trading day is specified as Jan 10. Just an observation. I've noticed this tendency on some of your other...

Cities for starting a prop firm/hedge fund?

Why expand geographically away from the major source of your talent ? Sounds like a recipe to grow stale with your original people and your original people's strategies and ideas. This business is so difficult and so dynamic that IMHO your original core staff will have to turn over in order to...

Looking for A Futures Prop Firm that accepts Canadians for remote based trading

I agree with Jack completely on this. The SPAN initial margin credits for carrying spreads overnight is so exceptional, it certainly sounds like you could easily do this for yourself. I have clients carrying a dozen different flavor, genus, and species spread positions overnight for less...

Wyoming Bill Would Nullify Obama Gun Control, Jail Feds

Well, since those Democratic Party Senators come from rural states with high percentages of gun owners with very high public opinion polling for 2nd amendment rights - states like Arkansas, Nevada, and Alaska, no clear thinking person would say that they would survive re-election campaigns in...
