Trump Says He Can Pardon Himself

Well, in that case he should issue an executive order retroactively pardoning himself. Let the fur fly. Vintage Trump. It would take a couple years to sort out. And for every committed left winger - their current neuroses would progress into full tilt DSM-IV psychosis. Personally, I’m...

    Your most valuable lesson

I think that advice well ‘received’ at a particular time and under particular circumstances fits a well-timed need for the recipient. Filter in filter out. There is no singular lesson that supercedes all others to the point of ‘Holy Grailty’. But if your intent is to compile a list over the...

Here’s a fun game: Guess Match the blatantly obvious neurotic click-bait thread title about US politics to a specific ET Member. Try not to look just under the thread title at the OP.

Supreme Court rules in favor of Colorado baker who wouldn't make same-sex wedding cake

I’ve read at least a dozen articles from prominent gay authors who were super pissed that David Mullins and Charlie Craig even brought the case. Furious, in fact.

    Need Advice

Well, here’s my point: even IF (big if) you could enter a flat price outright directional entry in ES for $500-$1000; WHY WOULD YOU? Your emotional state entering a trade would be so compromised, so fragile and so conditional; and I’m not even going to talk about position management...

How Trump's 'Soviet-style' coal directive would upend power markets

Yeah this was in the '90's. I had 400 MW of spin in the system. In the summer that could be 200 MW. As I spun down I'd turn on my own peakers and buy emergency power - usually from AEP. I would also have to rapidly assess the nature and estimated length of the outage and buy make-up power...

How Trump's 'Soviet-style' coal directive would upend power markets

In the 70's, 80's, and 90's Commonwealth Edison and the Illinois Commerce Commission caught holy hell for building 12 reactors. But it worked out. Now the state would rather subsidize the nukes (which is very modest on a per customer basis) than consider the alternatives. You certainly...

How Trump's 'Soviet-style' coal directive would upend power markets

Which is why I originally stated that political expediency aside, fuck Coal and put that $$$ into a very smart national power grid. But subsidize nuclear; at least enough to keep it a viable alternative. It's a cheap subsidy (compared to other generation subsidies) and IMO it's vital for...

How Trump's 'Soviet-style' coal directive would upend power markets

Yes, dead nuts on. To a limited extent you can load follow with nuclear - we did it with Byron and Braidwood. The new modular designs can load follow even better, but not as well as NG which is the ultimate. The naval power reactors load follow really really really well.

How Trump's 'Soviet-style' coal directive would upend power markets

Note that New York state and Illinois state themselves voted to keep open and indeed subsidize their remaining nuclear power plants. Smart economics in terms of a long term ATM call option on fuel pricing stability. Smart environmentally. Smart for baseload. It's all about baseload, people...

If the price of NG goes up... I fully realize that nuclear will be more expensive than NG; I believe in a baseload mix for security and prudence.

Solar and wind carry their own environmental risks that are too easily dismissed out of hand by blind proponents. Everything in perspective. I don’t know of any power source that doesn’t have a considerable downside. Yes, the new design modular nuclear plants with passive safety systems would...

How Trump's 'Soviet-style' coal directive would upend power markets

You’re being overly hyperbolic and a bit dramatic about what Trump’s policy [if even enacted as he proposes, which I doubt; FERC has a say in the implementation of the matter] does and does not do IMO. And it won’t “blow up” the wholesale power markets. I bought power from TVA all the time...

How Trump's 'Soviet-style' coal directive would upend power markets

I’ll double down here - hell, going with the latest design modular nuclear power plants with passive safety systems are going to get us to zero carbon and zero greenhouse gas emission power generation MUCH faster than carbon credits or a carbon tax scheme IMO. Plus, a mix of nuclear baseload...

I traded a hell of a lot of megawatts, transmission, and fuels for Commonwealth Edison’s Trading Group in the 1990’s - I’m a Nuclear Engineer by training. I would have been much happier to see a policy that emphasized the transmission grid and the newest design modular passive safety system...
