    Genetic programming

Exactly my contention as well. Best to develop a premise, test it, modify it slightly, and there you go: decent trading strategy that works over time.

Inflation to return - one opinion

Cliff resolution talks have all metals jumping today. Copper up 6 cents alone. It appears a resolution is a vote for more inflation ?

Is SATA III 6GB/s not worth it for 99% of people?

So, let me get this straight: SATA 3 drives and controllers actually out-perform the current generation of SSD's ?

    Genetic programming

I think there are solid statistical measures to do that. Biggest problem is: What time-frame ? Next 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months, 5 years ? If your average time-in-trade is 2 hours, knowing the 5 day or 5 week trend is somewhat worthless, no ? Likewise, if your average...

    Genetic programming

GA has never been proven to work for building trading systems that work well over time. They tend to "curve fit" the backtested data. I don't think it's possible to program GA not to curve-fit.

Some jobs require only H1B, B1 and B2 visas apply. No citizens please

You bet, and I've witnessed so many dumb executives while I was IT temping the past 5 years. Unbelievable they were making 2x-4x what I was making.

How to Avoid Getting Whipsawed in Chop?

EXACTLY ! and tight stops make this highly probable. Bottomine: for systematic trading, tight stops are not good...at all.

How to Avoid Getting Whipsawed in Chop?

A stop on a stop, eh ? Interesting. No question, if your first stop gets hit, more often than naught, the price movement is likely to reduce the loss from that of a hard stop. However, what is the logic to employe ? Seems to me like a Chandlier exit would be appropriate then.

How to Avoid Getting Whipsawed in Chop?

Exactly. "mechanical" stops can kill you. Wider stops help to avoid the whipsaw scenario.

Russel 2000 might start to crack because of fiscal cliff

Of course...and now EVERYONE is correct on their bull/bear call. I think we are setting up for a huge zigzag....which will be down, then up. Astute traders will line-up their trades accordingly. Trend followers, as usual, are likely to be disappointed...and/or stopped-out.

    Herbalife (HLF) Exposed!

If it's proven to be UNtrue in a court of law, then Ackerman stands to lose...BIG time. HerbaLife has been operating profitably.....for a long, long time. It has many satisfied customers. It has a premier endorsement personage in David Becham.

Inflation to return - one opinion

http://www.quandl.com/OFDP-Open-Financial-Data-Project/FUTURE_HG1-COMEX-Copper-Futures-Continuous-Contract-1-HG1-Front-Month Sorry, I beg to differ....the top was in late July 2007. Now a wide head-and-shoulders pattern is forming. Last 12 months action has been dreadfully zig-zag in...

Wait, so being humble is a prerequisite towards being a good trader ? i.e. all good traders are humble ?

    Not sure what I've built.......

This is all sounding so....phony. You are beating 90% of all money managers with those kinds of returns. And wtf are you doing in today's low-paying IT business anyway if you've got that kind of systems trading talent ?

    But what about copper ?

Alcoa's weak report sparks general weakness in all metals and mining stocks. Aluminum price drop cited. Copper down huge today to 3.55.....natch.

Inflation to return - one opinion

Exactly...and my contention is that all metals are "fully" if not "over" priced. Any whiff of deflation or lower demand should clobber all of them IMHO.

Inflation to return - one opinion

By Kirk Spano: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/there-and-back-again-with-inflation-2012-12-18?dist=beforebell Any implications for the metals complex here ? To me, "it's already in there"...re: the price of copper, gold, and silver.

    But what about copper ?

Strong new housing activity and now a risk-on environment ?.... yet HG and in fact all of the metals are weak today. No logic at work here at all.
