How many years your dataset goes back??? When analyzing daily bars you need min 25-30 years of reliable data for your backrest to have at least some assurance it is not totally curve fitted. Oil only became electronic in mid 2000s. Not sure where one can get pit traded quality data.

No need to writer something this simple. Just look into software like NinjaTrader, you can customize it there. Look at their tutorials. Software is amazing and free, until you need to trade live (very cheap when live).
