Why is IB's time 5 seconds behind the official time?

As def says, TWS time and data is not lagging. I can compare TWS data to that of Reuters, eSignal, and numerous local (Japan) brokers. If there's any difference among them, you'll need an Olympic quality stopwatch to measure it.

Has anybody taught a close relative how to trade?

Let him get a job and then see to it that he learns the art of saving money. Money earned and the sacrifices made in his daily life to save from those earnings will teach him to respect that money when he should cut his losses on a bad trade. I feel that rather than teach someone how to trade...

Some margins back to 50%, but TWS still 100%

I tried during regular trading hours here in Asia, but TWS still required 100%. Please let me know how it goes when the market opens in the U.S. Will be glad to be able to trade as much as I could before.

Some margins back to 50%, but TWS still 100%

I see that the margin requirement has been put back to 50% for some products, but TWS still requires 100%. Or were the changes made after the close in the U.S. and to be effective from tomorrow?

    Nikkei vs. TOPIX Liquidity

    >prince-in-jail The Nikkei Mini is the more liquid of the two. It trades 3 to 400000 contracts a day. The Topix Mini was listed only last month and only 5 to 10000 contracts are traded daily.

Any comments re. backtesting with Bloomberg or Reuters?

I used Reuters for 10 years. In the '90's they had the best charting package available. And as it's now basically the same as it was then, you can say it's light-years behind even average level charting software. So I wouldn't choose it as a backtesting tool. In fact I don't know that it even...

    eSignal Continuous Contract Settings

"c'mon guys"!? IMHO 'please, thank you', and the like would result in receiving more and better replies to your question. In the Configure Continuous Contracts box you can put a check in the Enable Back Adjustment box. May I suggest that you will find greater help to your questions...

Schaefer's Journal of Nikkei 225 Mini.

Hi, Sorry to say that if you don't live in Japan you can't open an account with a Japanese broker. You could use IB. Their RT cost is 300 yen. That's 3 times what I pay here, but I wouldn't know what other choices you might have.

In addition, you might experiment with the settings above the number of rows to display, being, Center around last price and Center around midpoint of bid/ask.

    TWS booktrader and wrong hotkeys

In BookTrader>configure>settings>number of rows to display. For example, if the contract shows to best b/a 5, display 12 rows and it will recenter automatically. Sometimes it will run down/up to best b/a 3, but will recenter from there.

Problem Booting Up IB TWS 884.6

I installed the beta version on both an XP and a Vista PC. No I didn't delete the prior Java versions. They remain. So if you have no success with the beta, you can delete it and go back to the current version.

Problem Booting Up IB TWS 884.6

    >Old Trader There's a Java beta version out that claims to cure even your athlete's foot. I've been using it for a few weeks and have had no problems whatsoever. It fact it did fix a non-TWS problem. http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ea/6u10/6u10beta.jsp Hope this helps.

Nothing Beats Price Action, Everything Else is Derivative

I look at it this way. Price action is the 'heart', and an indicator is the 'pulse'. I'd rather have a doctor listen to my heart than feel my pulse to determine my state of health.
