    Short selling and taxes

    >stevegee58 Oh, sorry I misunderstood. I trade only futures and am not that familiar with ETF's. They have ETF's where I am but no inverse ETF's. And to be honest I don't know how an inverse ETF differs from a normal ETF. Anyway, as he's not ready for option spreads etc. I guess he's out of...

    Short selling and taxes

    >stevegee58 Thank you very much for your reply. So he would be able to sell ETF'S with his tax deferred account without breaking IRS rules? I'm sure that will be good news to him. Thank you again.

    Short selling and taxes

Someone I know in the U.S. often needs a little hand holding due to insufficient information he has obtained. Today he emailed the following to me: [AS FOR SHORTING, I CAN'T SHORT STOCKS. THE ACCOUNTS I HAVE ARE DEFERRED TAX ACCOUNTS , I ONLY PAY TAX WHEN I TAKE THE MONEY OUT OF THE...

Japanese stock/derivative trading on TSE wiil be available thru foreign brokers

Today's Nikkei reported that the Tokyo Stock Exchange will allow foreign brokers to place orders even though they do not have offices in Japan. This should be effective sometime this year. I think eTrade in the U.S. offers trading in Japanese stocks (no futures). But as they must go through...

    Japanese Stock Data

As I mentioned, you can see the changes it the number of shares in the imbalance between buy and sell orders real time in the Detail Window. There is no way to tell exactly when the stock will open, but you can get a good idea as the imbalance nears zero.

    Japanese Stock Data

This happens when there is an imbalance between buy/sell orders. On a normal day most stocks will open within 5 minutes or so. If the market is to open way up or down, or when there is important news for an individual stock, it can take as long as an hour or more. The T&S data you are seeing is...

    Japanese Stock Data

Do you need that data for just certain stocks, or do you need it for the entire market? As you can imagine there is no demand for this information in English. But I once found a few sources of information in English a few years ago. Based on your needs, it might take me some time to find such...

    Trading from Japan

I do live here as such, but I am a permanent resident. Permanent resident status is granted only after many years living in Japan. There is no resident status of independent trader. Sorry for the bad news.

    eSignal on Demand/Other

    >Chuck This would definitely add to the attractiveness of eSignal for many real time and potential users. Being able to study and test in other markets before subscribing would be very valuable. And while such data is already available, I would much rather use it in eSignal than in brand X...

    CQG's trade platform

I think CQG is around $600 a month. But there are a number of brokers that offer the platform to their clients. What the conditions are I don't know.http://www.cqg.com/Electronic-Trading/Trade-with-FCM-Partners.aspx I don't know what Reuters product you are using (3000, Reuters Trader etc.). I...

Is there any app that will provide me just time and sales from my IB feed?

You can see your margin in TWS by clicking 'View' and 'Account'. T&S using IB's data is available in QuoteTracker. You can detach the T&S window.

    >pandabear If you can't use T&S in TWS, you could install QuoteTracker and use its T&S with IB's data.

    N225M question

In addition to what Kiwi mentioned, orders are accepted from 08:00 and the indications shown are usually quite close to what the opening will be. A major exception to this would be surprise economic data that comes out at 08:50 which is the scheduled time for such pre-opening announcements.

Why is IB's time 5 seconds behind the official time?

Here's BookTrader and that from a local broker for Topix futures. As you can see all 10 bid/ask sizes are exactly the same. If TWS was lagging even 1 second, this would be impossible. Proof enough?
