    NYSE rates rising on 8/1/2006?

Which may, or may not, be in lieu of the existing billable/non-billable/other structure. In any case, it's a really tiny fee at $0.25/1000, especially if it replaces the $0.01/share spec charge. As usual, their PR is just that - for the press - the details are buried somewhere.

    That isn't what it says.

If Your Online Broker Messes Up

The article is from 2000. Not surprising, given the environment at the time.

    Question about stock margin account?

I'm guessing it's just an affiliate offer, from someone like MBNA, Citi, etc. - like a credit card. Didn't he look at the terms? Last I checked, it's unlawful to trade securities using borrowed funds (other than broker-granted margin).

    short futures-options credited automatically?

Quote from FullyArticulate: IB does not do floor-traded futures options (except a tiny subset). Yup. Sorry. I thought the CBOT FOPs were trading. They are in the process of adding more floor-traded products over time. Products traded by exchange are listed at...

    Stuff I've wondered about

Trading individual stocks, you have significant news risk and higher volatility. Broad-based ETFs (or index futures), because they are averages of many stocks, are more "pure" if you want to trade technically, supply/demand, etc. Beware of narrow-based ETFs that have a few heavily-weighted...

    IB - data generation process

T_H: You seem to be poking at a lot of things that you think might be a problem for someone, some day, but shouldn't you be thinking about the things that might actually be a problem for you? Choosing a broker is not like getting married without the possibility for divorce. Most active...

    short futures-options credited automatically?

www.interactivebrokers.com is reasonably competitive, plus you get credit interest (on the balance over $10K) and SIPC protection on funds that are not being used for margin, and can trade international, ForEx spot, stocks, options, etc. all from the same account.

    TWS clock ~15 seconds behind

Check against http://nist.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java to eliminate the PC clock from the equation. Also, is it consistent with CNBC's closing bell countdown (plus a second or two for satellite delay)?

    What is your Ext hours?

You need to know which specific tools on your platform give you quotes from which source. After the close of the Naz and listed tapes at 18:30, you need to see the top-of-book quotes (or the actual market depth) from the individual ECN feeds. IB does this correctly (the SMART route). Most other...

    IB; Biggest Possible Improvement?

I realized later that I should have used the word "significant", too, but I thought that was a given also :)

    Most active in After hours

INET, ARCA, BRUT, etc. all trade after hours. Different values will be reported by different lists, depending on what they include.

    IB Option Assignment

I'm guessing that the word "customer" is mis-used, and should be "account number", since they specifically state they use the account numbers in numerical order. Given, this, some possibilities seem to be: 1. Account2 (which got 32/50 assigned) is numbered higher than Account1 (which got 0/25...

    IB; Biggest Possible Improvement?

The poll is missing some choices. I don't care if they manage to give you more accurate tick data, as long as it does not result in additional bandwidth/processor usage (on either the server or client) for those of us that don't need it. As I've said before, IB is my only data source that...

IB: How long do they hold wires?

Assuming your bank sends before whatever IB's incoming cutoff time is (probly at least 17:00 ET), and you've correctly formatted the FFBO field per the wire instructions, you'll usually see it post to your IB account in TWS within an hour or so of it being sent. I've routinely had both big...

Why do analysts publicly post their upgrades /downgrades ?

I thought the key was the word "clients", and that they were not required to disclose proprietary research to the general public (i.e. people that are not their clients). It's certainly routine for a stock to get bid up after hours before an analyst upgrade hits Briefing and/or the DJ wire...

**Do NOT open thread titled "Real or not"

Can a mod comment on the status of this? Has whatever loophole that the user exploited been closed? Do I have to worry about viruses showing up in other threads? Was the virus successfully caught by anyone's AV software (I use ZASS, which I think uses CA's engine/datfiles)?

    Stuff I've wondered about

Quote from IronFist: Is there a significant difference between stocks on the different markets? Why would someone only trade NYSE stocks but not AMEX, for example? Some strategies are tailored specifically for a specialist-driven market (NYSE/AMEX) as opposed to a MM market (NASDAQ). Most...
