Well, that little plunge salvaged my VIX call position. I had removed the short side of a vertical spread this morning, and the remaining long side was drifting the wrong way - until I got a 50% bump and sold near the low of the downdraft. I'm back in the long side again back where it was...

ammo - I should have specified that I was referring to the futures. NQ managed to break intraday resistance, but seems to have petered-out. Looks to me like a stalemate into the close. AM.

The VIX doesn't seem convinced of this down move. I won't be surprised to see some recovery - especially by NQ - before the close. AM.

I experienced similar problems when legging into vertical spreads on VIX options. For whatever reasons, switching to VXX options eliminated my problem. I was thinking perhaps it was a futures vs. ETF issue, but you seem to be having the issue with ETF options if you're using SPY options...

Theta is like usurious interest when holding options long term. You can somewhat offset it by selling OTM strikes against your long ITM position, but theta will still tend to eat you alive. AM.
