Call IV vs Put IV on index options

The price of the credit spread depends on a number of factors. You are comparing put and call credit spreads where the short legs are equidistant from the current price of the underlying and you are assuming that they must therefore be priced similarly. This is not so. Your short call will have...

    Index volatility smile

Chilipalmer, Panzerman has posted a great 3D chart. The front month options generally have more skew than the back month, thus the 'volatility smile'. But you need to also remember that the skew itself changes and, as Panzerman pointed out, is affected by the passage of time (front month versus...

Got Yaho and MSFT Call/Put options - what to do?!

Come now atticus, you should show a little more respect for ff! After all he does have 1320 posts (as he himself likes to point out. Sadly most of them are a pile of shit), lol. He made my 'ignore idiot' list long ago. Cheers db

synthetic option position to replace an apartment building?

If you look at any of the options pricing models, for example Black Scholes, you'll find that dividends are already part of the formula and thus are priced into your option premium (even 3 weeks prior to the dividend date), just as the previous poster mentioned. Iow if the dividend falls due...

    High Volatility Iron Butterflies

Backtest these (for example in optionvue or optiongear or whatever) to see how they pan out and you'll have your answer. Cheers db

    Repairing covered call

Here are some more choices for you dreammaker: 1. buy a lower strike put and turn your position into a synthetic bull call spread (long the stock, short the call and long the put equals long call, short call equals bull call spread) 2. buy a higher strike put and turn your position into a bear...

Forex darling, Which part of "I won't post anymore on this board" couldn't you understand? :D db

    analyse a straddle

My constructive advice was for newbies to get some option education even if it is only in the form of some books and think about attending some courses in order for them not to make the same mistakes you made (and probably still do). I don't comment on your trades because I use different...

    analyse a straddle

Thanks for the kind words Richard. To forex: I'm not interested in a 'fight' - you win, well done and I hope this victory will be reflected in your trading account. I've nothing more to say and now find this board has become nothing more than cheap entertainment value with the occasional...

    analyse a straddle

Look forex. I'm tired of repeating myself on this board. I used to post a lot, now I couldn't be bothered unless someone writes some outrageous nonsense like you did. If you want to know what you should be studying then you can search this board or my posts. Enough is enough. Cheers db

    analyse a straddle

That's right, you want to answer questions in this forum and that's why I was commenting on your advice: " I wouldn't pay for any options education, but if a free seminar shows up in your area I would go but not sign up for anything, you might get something from the freebie part of it. These...

    analyse a straddle

I think you might want to be a little more careful in regards to whose advice you take. This is just one example of what happens when you don't want to pay for an education: "forex-forex Registered: Feb 2006 Posts: 892 05-14-07 08:09 PM SBUX - Just bought 100 contracts June 30 Calls at...

    Options Mentoring

I did exactly that when I started trading options. Kept my positions small, kept losses small and gradually wore down my account. But I did learn. I learned how to lose small amounts gradually. Now things are differerent, no thanks to the above advice (although well intentioned it may be). db

    Selling Optionvue 5 , (Ver 1.84)

??? I presume Mav has some kind of arrangement with optionvue, otherwise he'd be in prison since most know his true identity. For example, I know there's a free trial version available. Perhaps that is what he means by 'free'. I'll soon know. db

    Selling Optionvue 5 , (Ver 1.84)

Great! Can't wait for my copy. PM has been sent. I assume the optionvue company doesn't mind and gets paid in some way for their software. I just wonder how. I guess I'll soon find out. Cheers db
